I don't know, it looks a little sterile. I like curtain-less Windows, but in your case, I'm not sure. Maybe just a valance?

Cor - I forgot to mention that the windows on each
end have only an inch or two between the window moulding and the wall -
not sure how to get a curtain rod in there while keeping whatever is
hanging on it centered.

teamaltese - The ceilings are 9 ft. with 10 ft. in tray. We don't have any problems with echo, I believe the furniture takes care of that. & No difficulty with understanding conversation across the room either.

If your blinds are open most of the time, I would remove them, and opt for curtains only. I would go with a white, in a light, airy Belgian linen that would mesh well with the space, kind of like the photo below. As long as you go with a lighter-weight fabric, you wouldn't need to worry about it feeling like a "wall of fabric."

As for the curtain rod, here's a helpful guide to help you with those pesky windows that are close to the wall.

I have 3 windows with wood blinds. Strictly for decor reasons, I got 3 curtain rods, and just 3 single panel curtains. Each one just hangs to one side of the window. Looks great, and takes away the stark look

I would add wooden Roman shades -white.mounted Above the molding at least 3" off the ceiling.
