Anything except gray please ..... So overdone, cliched, & boring!!!

Thank you 111ideahound. We plan on painting everything, removing wallpaper boarder in kitchen and buying all new furniture.

I can't decide on the wall color because the unit is a first floor unit with one unit with a deck above it so the natural light can be limited. I was thinking of painting it a beige/gray color but can't decide between Revere Pewter, Rockport gray or more of a gray/beige with a tinge of green like Seattle Mist or Northern Cliffs or more gray/taupe like Stone Harbor or Plymouth Rock. I want it to be warm and cozy but not cave like.

You really have a blank slate - if you search Pinterest/Houzz/Google Images, I'm sure you will start to identify the look/feel you want and pieces of furniture that may better suit than what you have above (sorry, just me), but I think these are more for a regular home - don't scream warm and cozy, modern or even chalet. Before deciding on pieces, you may want to work with a room planner to help with placement/appropriate sizes to meet your needs. Distressed wood coffee table, harvest dining table, and leather are good choices for the wear and tear and they are a great look for a chalet. Then consider accessories and select your paint last. Blues, burgundy, cream shades go really well together - maybe use the rug's color for your walls (BM Ivory White may work) and then bring in real pops of color with your accessories. I would also focus on the kitchen, painting your cabinets and adding handles, distressing the bottom of the island and adding great stools. Lighting will be key as well.

Nice wood choices of furniture. I like the taupe/gray idea. I'm not familiar with those exact colors. Will go look them up. Only you can decide though as you said, depending on your lighting and size of room, etc... for paint colors. What a fun project. Best wishes.

I'd go for the lighter, Stone Harbor.

Fan can still be useful. If you use this in the summer, with open windows, the fan will make a nice breeze. In winter, it helps bring warm air down to reduce heating costs. Geez the fan haters are so myopic!

I found when i had high ceilings fan did not work so i got box fans. they are now all i use. How about a yellow, this one has an inner light i love

I actually think the loveseat is in good condition, I think i would keep that, especially if it is a recliner.I would try to stick to sturdy furniture, that exudes warmth.

I think storage ottomans would be a great idea, they can be used to store extra throws and pillows when not in use.

definitely onboard with the skiing pics, I would just get posters though they only cost $20 at most. even if they walk you would not be out much and people do not expect much in way of art. how about using used skis from thrift stores etc as shelves.

I am not withit when it comes to skiing, don't you need a place to store all that?

here on houzz you just save it to your ideabook, then come here, and go to 'houzz photo', which takes you to your ideabook, and you find your item you saved, then 'insert' and it come here into this box.

if you don't want the unit to be cave-like don't paint it a cave color is all i can say. and while i am no fan hater, you won't need yours in NH during ski season... its just drawing attention to a rather low textured ceiling. i'd give it a miss. if this is meant to be a rental people respond to the photo and the fan doesnt help you.

yes if it's a rental by all means don't spend a fortune on art. Houzz has some really great more expensive art about skiing. Very cute.

Since light is limited with the unit deck above I'd stay away from anything gray, even the colors mentioned. Might take on a cold, dingy look. The orange accents a great idea.

Thanks Jacknewportbeach. Any recommendations on wall color that will still exude warmth but yet go with the wood trim around fireplace and doors and not make it appear to dark?

Here are a couple of photos of a similiar unit that was redone but it's a second floor unit with high ceilings. They also painted the trim white which I don't plan on doing because I like the mountain rustic look to it.

I think the tan color would be warm and cozy.

I think Silver Sage BM would go nicely with your wood trim and brick fireplace

Since you like the rustic mountain look, Ralph Lauren paint has some rich rustic colors (sorry, don't have samples on hand),. A friend of ours is currently building a beautiful rustic ( very high end version ) house in a mountain resort using those colors inside & out.

hey idea! have you looked in my ideabooks? everything goes in there. there is an app called 'save to ideabook button' . you click and drag to your toolbar, then you click on it whenever you want to save. things that don't work, i think you should not do. all stores work though

when you have the save to ideabook button, anything you see on the screen just about can be saved. just hit the button pick the pic and tell it which book and then hit save. walah it is yours! when you want to use, push the houzzphoto button below and what ever you click on will go in the comment.

What about a cozy terracotta color? Maybe a tad lighter than this. It goes great with wood furniture. Great backdrop for art too.

You've got great
bones there, a few changes will make a big difference in the feel.

Paint: I'd stay away from the gray tones for a room mostly to be used in
winter, when the light reflecting off the snow will be very cool and blue.
Very important step: put the paint chips on the wall next to the trim and
look at them at all times of day and weather and see what you like best. Too
much yellow in the paint and the trim will get lost. Too much blue and it will
feel cold. You want to add warmth but not darkness. Take a look at Benjamin
Moore Shaker Beige HC 45. I agree, I like their products.

• Carpet: equally important
  that the paint not throw off the color of the carpet. I would layer a
  patterned area rug on top of the carpet - more practical, too, with that
  light carpet. And that warm feeling comes from a lot of cozy layers.
• Curtains: simple and cheap:
  get 2 flannel twin flat sheets [or full sized if you need the width] in a
  cozy pattern you like, like plaid. If you want to go the extra step,
  replace the curtain thing you've got with a mock iron curtain rod.
• Ceiling fan: you can keep the
  one there and let it disappear into the white ceiling. Or you could
  replace it with a more rustic one. This is the kind of thing you can do in
  steps if you want: leave it and replace it later.
• Furniture: I like all the
  choices you posted. I got a microfiber couch that looks like distressed
  leather - much cheaper and more practical! Get it in a dark neutral and
  then have fun lightening it up with fun pillows and throws. Also a massive
  rustic coffee table, one people can put their feet up on.
• Accents: I'll add red all day
  long for warmth and fun, but you can add it small doses. Faux wrought-iron
  lamps w/ rustic shades. Storage ottomans are a great idea, can tuck away
  along one wall when you don't need them.
