Paver Decision Help Needed

last modified: 10 years ago

We are still struggling with the pavers decision for our new home. The style is Sante Fe.

I went to the store today and took photos of the paver samples along with our sample wall color (Dunn-Edwards DET690 Saddle Up. The attached photo has four paver samples (Sierra Blend, Bella Blend, Desert Blend, and Toscana Blend) next to our wall sample. Wood trim is medium brown. Windows are clad in a Chestnut Bronze (dark) color. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I like the first one, Sierra Blend.

I would say Sierra or Desert - the others seem too forced / pink for me.

    Where are the pavers going?

I like Sierra Blend; your walking surface should not be the focal point. I'd want it to blend in.

@ILoveRed -- the pavers will go on the driveway, front courtyard, and rear veranda

Y'all are so safe and conservative. ;-)

Bella just jumped out at me and said, "Santa Fe? That's me!" With Mediterranean, Spanish, and Southwestern styles, I like to see more unexpected splashes of color.

Sorry, I guess I lived in the desert for too long, and got tired of everything being 12 different shades of beige, lol.

Guess it depends if your want the overall paver appearance to be more uniform and monolithic (sierra and desert), or more of mottled color range (bella or Toscana). I think the Bella and Toscana pick up more of the house paint color.

Do you have to use these pavers? Can you use something a bit less "perfect" looking?

We have a Spanish style house in So. CA, painted a similar beige and we used pavers from Belgard, Dublin Cobble and we mixed the Toscana and Victorian colors in equal quantities.

The Belgard website is terrible, but I found another website with the style and colors we used:

    http://thebrickyard.com/product-category/pavers/belgard-pavers/dublin-cobble/

We have a large driveway and when researching pavers and driving around I found that the ones that had used color combinations with too much red and yellow tended to look a bit cartoonish.

Ours is certainly not bland. We used the diferent 3-size mix for the driveway and used the larger square paver to make a border on all outside edges. People think our house is an old original spanish house and not one that was built 14 years ago. The "antique" looking pavers help with that look.

I really like the Bella. A lot! Second up is Desert.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment about the paver selection. We decided to choose Bella. It will tie in the house color and the red rock color that is so prominent in our area.

@chispa -- our house style is transitional sante fe -- we aren't going for an old world look but I'm sure your Spanish style house and paver combination is stunning.
