The art you posted is much more modern than anything else you own. How much of this room are you planning to change? I know you mentioned the art by the hutch and the pillows, but if you're not getting rid of most of the décor I think the original art you had there is better.

The two paintings by the hutch--could they be relocated above the chairs in the LR? Or are you tired of them too. I know you mentioned removing, what is your motivation for that?

After 16 years, your brain needs some time to get used to the new look. In the photos your room looks fine, a bit stiff maybe but perfectly acceptable and pleasant.

Light hearted sassiness will be hard to find with such formal furniture unless you go back to the yellow paint, or paint the dining chairs a bright color and reupholster.

I dont think art has to be a certain style or even color, if you love it get it.

There are certainly plenty of options with respect to making art more interesting while still keeping in the spirit of the rest of the decor

One other thought: your lamp which you are going to move in front of the window (good idea) is " skinny", think about something fatter,wider...such as a big ceramic lamp is a color you love.
