Thank you for all of your comments! We are picking floor stains now, we like a darker floor. Leaning towards dark walnut but would love recommendations - the floor is white oak. I like Ebony also but worried it might be to dark.

I think we are doing subway tile backsplash. Deciding between grey or white grout, and beveled or non beveled edge. The permitter will be the same as the island - Montclair Danby. For lights, we found some cool lanterns lights we like. If I get up the nerve I may do gold lanterns (and likely switch out all the hardware to gold).

Dark walnut will be nice - I wouldn't use ebony. It's all very nice in theory, like the pure white (with little blue squares) floor tile I once put in a kitchen. Until someone drops a crumb or three, or a dust speck lands on it...and you find yourself feeling like you have to vacuum or sweep every single day! And perish the thought if you have a dog or cat...(unless it's a black lab!) - every little thing shows. Is the rest of the house to be the same? If going with beveled edge would go white grout for sure, go non-beveled and grey if you went more of a rustic or modern farmhouse look.

I love Special Walnut for a nice medium toned warm brown.

If you are doing white subway tile, have you considered a glazed brick, like Waterworks Grove Brickworks, in white with gray grout, shown here:

Or with white grout, as shown here:

Glazed brick adds a wonderful texture while still being essentially neutral.

My only comment on the light fixtures for over the island is be aware of the height and potential glare. Because they're set fairly low (36" above the countertop is fairly standard) you should view them at that height with the bulbs ON. Then walk a short distance away - it's not when you're under them at the work surface that you need to worry about - it's when you walk away and they're at eye height. I love our pendants - except when they're on and I'm not at the island, when I find there is a lot of glare from the bulbs themselves. We've got Edison bulbs in them, and I've tried "normal" bulbs, but if anything, that was worse. At least they're on dimmers - which I would highly recommend. Visible bulbs are all the rage right now in all sorts of different fixtures, but they do have a significant drawback.

May go this direction with the lights, would love feedback. I do like the lanterns, it's a big statement for me - which I like, but of course I want it to look good. This is another option, match island pendants and drum light over eating area feedback appreciated!

The counters looks great. I think the middle stain would go well. The others may be a bit too dark. What type of flooring is that? Did you consider getting prefinished flooring?

The floors are white oak - they were already picked when we bought the house (house was about 70% complete - so we picked counters, lights, floor but mostly everything else was complete.) The stain is tricky because these all look much darker than I expected - the espresso looks to dark for me, but it may be the lighting and I think it is actually still wet. I haven't seen in person yet - I will tomorrow so maybe seeing it in person it will be lighter.

They should sample some stain colors for you. We did Jacobean and love it, our neighbors loved it too and just did their floors in it. We don't have pets, one kid, and have a cleaner every other week. We don't wear shoes in our house and the floors look great. Jacobean has the slightest green tinge which goes well with our walls which are in Pale Oak.
