Would you do blue?

Would you paint this little house deep blue? What would you do with the trim? The painters are coming in two weeks and I'm stumped. Thanks for any help getting unstuck!

The soffits, gutters and a new storm door are bright white and won't be painted.

About all the dings and roof patches: My neighbor's HUGE tree fell on our house last December and the insurance claim is only now resolving. The gutters and trim will be fixed/replaced and the roof will be replaced, but still black (Landmark black moire HD). The door and stoop have been replaced.

I've been thinking about deep blues that aren't exactly navy. Also thought about blue-green and green-gray. Next door, there's a white house with green trim and a soft yellow house with sage trim.

First dilemma I've posted....I didn't know it would be a little scary! I've long been awed by the generosity of houzzers, now I'm appreciating your bravery too. Anyway, Thank you in advance for your ideas and help! I promise to post pics of the makeover.

    Well I'm going to be the only vote here for painting it blue! Very cute house BTW. Here's why I think it would look nice; you have very wide trim and lots of white to play off of that darker color. This would make the detail on your house pop. The actual body of your house does not cover so much area! If you have questions about doing this have the paint store do a mock up for you first.

      Darzy, I love the chandelier but it is a bit too formal for your space. Are you able to relocate it or box it up and save it for another day? If you are able to replace it with a less formal chandelier, that would help. I agree the table and rug need to rotate. I would bring the wine butler into the dining room and place it on the adjacent wall. Remove the buffet. Move the art so that you have vertical vertical horizontal. After that, take a phone photo and look critically at the photo. I have found that I have to take out/move/replace often...taking a photo each time...until I finally come up with a design I like.

      Thank you life4real for your kind posts and input! Deep sea echoes colors inside. I'm looking for 4 colors: body, trim, door and the window sashes& mullions. It helps my confidence to hear you like the gray-green combo.

      Awwww, thanks Beth! You said it perfectly, little needs bold. I'm trying to decide between Juneberry and Deep Sea for the door. Main walls would be the medium gray/green and trim would be the white.

      Emmarene, thank you for creating visuals! I did sample boards for the greens and white but not the door colors, so it's a big help to see all the colors together instead of chipped. One thing I like about Juneberry is that I could repeat it with flowers, since we need landscaping too.

      The Juneberry is a wonderful choice for your door. The other color just blends in and is too close to the house body color. I do hope you'll post pics when it's finished!

      Thank you Katinpardise, I see what you're saying about the greens being so close. I think I may just love that deep sea green and need to use it somewhere else.

      Blue houses are the best! And your house would look so cute blue! Especially in contrast with the lighter houses around you. I would go with a deep, but not too dark blue like this one. Or a grayer blue like some have mentioned. The bright white trim helps it not sink into the background.

      What about BM Jamestown blue? Or buxston is a slightly lighter choice.

      Oh my gosh Emily, those are such cute blue houses! I do love them! Thank you for finding them. After a lot of thought and sample boards, I'm going with a grayed green, which I also love. Trying to get sassy with the front door -- maybe deep pink or peacock green.

      Hi Emily! SW Jasper Stone -- a grayish green -- for the body.

      Maria I can see this house in blue too! But I veered toward green when I realized the trim has a touch of yellow and isn't really bright white. It's been a very close call!

      Beth, Juneberry won the door-off. I am a little unsure about the main green, though -- my Jasper Stone sample board looks a bit a little bit blue (celadon?) outside. I am going to ask if they can paint a test for me. I will gladly buy new paint to get a look I like.

      So scare-cited.....will keep you posted!

      oh good. I love that color for a door. That stone looks a bit yellow on my screen. Is it the lighting?? The crisp white really looks good next to it.

      the other blue one you picked for the door would look good with this as well. can't wait to see it all finished.

      Beth, you're right, the yellow is the current body color. It's actually a yellow green -- puce green? Must have been a thing in the 70s. They are starting with the trim and probably won't paint any green until Tuesday. In the pic, the peppercorn sash and white trim is done in the right window. It's pretty harsh against the yellow -- I think they have diff undertones. It will be more balanced when the green goes up.

      Delightful house...I was rooting for lynartist's dark blue examples...blues are special, whereas a mid-grey is ordinary. Maybe you are going for a friendly tone. Darkish blue and white is chic, mid-grey comfy. So, whatever feels most like home for you, I guess.

      For the last ten months, I've looked at my house and seen only the tree damage and frustration about the insurance hassle. But the sweet things people have said here have brought me back to why I bought this house and how happy it has been for us. So thank you for that!

      The painters are almost finished with the trim. The dark gray window sashes look pretty sharp -- so sharp that the yellow siding actually looks good! It has a sort of menswear vibe. Keeping the yellow has crossed my mind.... But I think the soft green might be even prettier.

      I like the color combo! I think in the spring with some fresh landscaping, foliage and flowers, it will really standing out. I really like how the windows turned out.

      Thank you Beth! I think the windows were designed to be two colors. The gray is making windows pop the way mascara highlights eyes. I definitely want to landscape next Spring and cut down he overgrown crabapples flanking the front door.

      Thank you life4real, I wish I'd painted the trim years ago! When I moved in the windows were baby blue. I picked a yellowy white without any thought at all, just because it was the color going up on my ceilings. It looked better but never good -- this looks good.

      A great color to consider is Sherwin Williams - Wall Street - It's a medium/dark Gray - Blue. Not too dark - a very soothing color!

      Hi CK, thanks for chiming in! After much deliberation, I've committed to green. I will always love little blue houses though, and the blue you found is right up my alley. Maybe next time....

      Update: all of the trim is done except the doors. We are waiting for the carpenter to replace the door trim damaged by the tree that fell on my house. He thinks he'll get to us before Nov. 1. Then the painters will come back and finish (weather willing). Really happy with how things are going so far!

      THE PAINTERS ARE HERE. It's been a year since they did the trim. And he is grumpy because I emailed him at 6 a.m. Today changing the color. :)
