Tree fern problems

Hello, I've lurked a lot here and learned much by doing so but unfortunately for my current problem I haven't been able to find an answer. I recently purchased a tree fern from the big blue home store. At the time of purchase it looked a little tattered but I figured with some tlc it'd perk up. I've been having this issue with the new fronds that emerge from the crown. As the stem approaches where the leaf portion unfurls all of the new fronds develop this black spot always on the "outside" portion of the stem.

This spot seems to develop quickly and the top portion withers and dies soon after. Here's another pic of an older frond that had the same issue:
You can see how the top eventually just shrivels up. Originally I was thinking it was nutrient deficient at first but I've had it for a month or so and have been giving it dilute foliage pro fertilizer and seaweed fertilizer and the problem persists. Could it be a type of fungus? The crown doesn't seem to be rotting and I can feel new fronds begining to emerge under the hairs. I'm just worried this issue persisting with all the future fronds and killing the plant. Sorry for the length of text but I tried to add all pertinent information haha.
