It will probably require both. The hvac company will run the actual ducting from the appliance to the exterior of the building, the appliance company will hook up the appliance. If you have a gc it will be best if they coordinate, will usually involve cabinet and counter modifications as well.

I had a gas JennAir with a downdraft.

Hated it. Couldn't use it with the grill. It would pull the heat down. Food on the outside edge would not cook, food on the inside edge would burn. The downdraft went on automatically when the grill was turned on.

On the opposite side, with 2 burners, I would have to keep an eye on the pots, or one side would burn...

Would never have another downdraft.

The Jenn Air oven was fantastic though. Convection. Baked really nicely.
