Well you could get old wood chairs and paint them to match the table, you could paint the table another color and have dark chairs, or you could go with black chairs and have an monochrome design with an accent color. If you go with the 1st or 2nd I'd recommend painting the walls above the wainscoting. Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions. I hated painting the table so painting coordinating chairs is definitely out. It was too labor intensive. It would take me a year to finish them.

Of the chairs suggested, I'd probably prefer the first World Market or top two RH ones. The EA one is pretty but I have 3 kids under 9. It wouldn't survive spaghetti night ;-) Any cloth seating should probably be a slipcover or have a pattern.

I think some contrast is needed in your space. While I love the first World Market chair, perhaps the cross backs would be more practical for while children are not the neatest. You could get some fusions with beige, blacks that will hide some boo-boos and maybe Sunbrella fabric. Then keep walls neutral and add some artwork with black frames and perhaps botanical pictures. Something light and breezy. I will hunt around a bit for pictures for you.

I feel the cross back chairs will look to small pulled up to your very large chunky table....is this a dining room or eating area off kitchen?

It's a dining room. Has two entry points. One looks into the kitchen, the other looks across the hall to a sitting room. I saw a nice rounded banquette bench online but way outside my price point.

This is a high back wood chair from crate and barrel..comes in white and black but I prefer the black....would look like this but of course opposite white table black chairs!

I would check estate sales for chairs. You would spend much less $$, but it takes more time to find what you want. The crossback wooden chairs are very similar to chairs I've seen in thrift shops, Salvation Army etc.

Here are some ideas.

this is a "crossback" chair. You could get in black as well if you wished. Simple chairs but remarkably comfortable and child friendly.This is bargain at $50 ea.You could do the chairs in the natural and get some skirted seat covers that match your desired look. Here are a few possible fabric choices.

You can pair those chairs and your table with just about any look you want. Nice job on table by the way! I will post some prints for your walls as well in a bit.

One set with kind of antique frames for monochromatic look. This is a set of "olive types" with white washed frames. I will keep looking for reasonable priced with black frames. I think some contrast would be good. Then you could do a black bowl in the middle of your table with some pears, or lemons, that kind of thing for a touch of color, but keeping it fairly neutral.

These are framed types of "ferns", but showing you the black with the white and green combo would work nicely in your room. See if any of these ideas appeal to you. they would all be fairly inexpensive to do. You could even make the wall hangings, by buying the black frames and inserting subject matter of your choice. Perhaps some of the children's art work, or some interesting photos you have, just keep the theme the same and the colors consistent.

My kitchen is the typical white shaker cabinets with calacatta grey quartz counters. Kitchen and dining room walls are gray. Have a light blue sofa. Other sitting room has leather couch and a Dash & Albert Plain Tin ivory rug. Overall, the whole palette is neutral right now. I am related to an artist and hang a lot of her work in my home. idicosimo - wow! I love her work. Smashing! She could do some pieces for your dining room, or maybe you already have some! Here is a room that is more formal, but has a table similar to yours. You could do these chairs (or similar) and do them in a leather on the seats and inside backs and then do a fabric, as these are done, for a more child friendly set up. If you have a store around that does fabric and furnishings, you can get some good deals on chairs and can select the fabrics you want. Interior Fabrics in Houston does really nice work here.

O my goodness that art is really beautiful!! Do you have any that can be hung in the dining room? The gray and white bold stripe chair would look beautiful mixed with soft blue and white throughout....kinda cottage beachy feel....

How formal do you want to take your dining room? That is factor for you in deciding on chairs and other pieces. What overall style besides the antiqued table are in your spaces? I definitely don't want the room to be formal. The room used to be red and had a dark table and formal chairs and an oriental rug. I hated pretty much everything in there. I'm aiming for casual and airy so it coordinates with our all white kitchen.

I think I'm leaning in the direction of wood chairs with cushions. Although the upholstered ones are nice, I'm thinking the kids will ruin them. I just spent the past hour picking crumbs out of seagrass counter stools.

Loose cushions can really be a pain with kids to:( a solid upholstered seat with waterproof protection will be easy care...just something to think about.

If this is your more formal dining space, might ask yourself will children be eating in this room? Perhaps the grown ups deserve some space too? Just wondering.
