I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but I can tell you my own experience with wool batting. I love wool for baby and children's quilts because it is light, airy and a little more puffy when not over quilted. I always pre shrink in my bath tub when using it for baby quilts since I know baby quilts will be washed more often and probably without too much care. I expect them to be used and abused so to speak. I have just recently received a large quilt where the long arm quilter used wool batting (not preshrunk at home). I wash all my fabrics before quilting - just a habit I guess. When I got the quilt from the LAQ I immediately washed it as I do all my quilts-in warm water and dry until almost completely dry in the dryer, and I find no difference. The quilt did not wrinkle anymore than any other quilts I have made and washed. The LAQ loved quilting with wool batting so we are both very pleased. What kind of wool batting I can't say as she has it on a roll and I did not think to ask who the manufacturer was. I really don't think you can go wrong with wool - maybe a little more pricey, but in my opinion, well worth it. I love my quilt and will continue to wash it and dry in the dryer - with care!

I recommend Hobbs washable wool. It works and quilts very well. Love wool and use it every chance I get.
