Can you explain more which you have tried and what problems you've run into? For example, I can see only one test patch, and it looks too close to the color of your couch.

I think your current color is very pleasant, but I can see the right pale gray harmonizing beautifully with your rug et al...

How about Benjamin Moore revere pewter? It might have just the right amount of contrast to your gray couch.

I have tried Stonington (too silvery and cold), owl gray (too greenish), Light Pewter ( too light), Cape May cobblestone (loved the depth but too brown), Sage Mountain (was suggested by a paint specialist but it was way too green), Revere Pewter (too brown), Stepping stone (I liked but it needs more gray in it). I am very picky as you can probably tell and I'm also very indecisive. Right now I'm looking into Nimbus or Smoke Embers

I think you should try a contrasting color and then paint the wall you look at into the kitchen a lighter shade of your kitchen walls. You could try a rust color that is deep and may seem dark, but won't reflect a ton of light and end up looking peach in broad daylight.then throw in some navy and oatmeal along with your orange.

Jennifer- do you think thunder is too brown for the gray couch? i am thinking nimbus or smoke embers. i'm nervous nimbus may be too light with the white built-ins.

You should check out Maria Killam's website, she's a color specialist and I'm sure you'll find help there in understanding undertones of color. It might be that you don't need gray walls which is why every color you choose is the "wrong" gray.

Any gray will be overwhelming with the large gray couch and rug. Go with a warm white and decorate from there.

Try Benjamin Moore "Wish" AF 680. CUT THE FORMULA TO ONE HALF STRENGTH when they mix it at the paint store. Yes, ONE HALF. Roll it on one whole wall. ..... and keep going .Problem solved, guaranteed. Just enough gray, not too warm, and not too cool.......blends everywhere, and just one of the many places I have used it, below

Do you think it has too much of a brown undertone for a room that is mostly gray? And would you stick with a neutral like this? I'm scared I'm making this room very Blah with all the grays.

I think thunder is one of those greige colors that changes with different lighting, it is a great color and complements the grays. We have kendall charcoal in our pantry and thunder on all the main walls, I also have chelsea gray in guest room and hallway that connects to the thunder and it looks great

Thanks Jennifer. Do you think Kendall Charcoal is too dark for a kitchen? Do you think this blends well? Would you do dark? There is minimally wall space in my kitchen and we are putting in white subway tile for a backsplash. Don't mind the mess and paint samples everywhere :)

It is not too brown......... You've been attempting tones that are too deep. I'd paint those kitchen cabinets in a single heartbeat btw.........WHITE.:: ) and I'd do the dame with the brick on the fireplace. You could use a chair too: )

I'm confused - the natural tan paint currently there has a rattan-basket color. Have you disliked how all you have goes with orange as accent?

Paint the dang walls, paint out the fireplace to white. The TAN is beyond dreary, and works well with nothing major the OP recently selected for the room. Sorry.......: ) but the best results mean sticking to your INTENT for the space. The reults do not revolve around a couple of 19.99 pillows. Citrus or otherwise.. Yellow, plum, navy, orange, magenta................all very nice with gray.

Yes, paint if you want. But some do choose very neutral and conservative golden tan and charcoal items.... take a look if you can:

You've picked informal wall pieces that seem good for a family room. What about a bright cream color? Sorry haven't followed what wall with kitchen is getting painted too...
