HI -- Yes painting the cabinets will help . Just do not add any more green and try to ignore the counter color . Paint the walls a warm white or a light tint white . Try Revere Pewter or Touch of grey by Benjamin Moore .

I have the same not-so-lovely counters. I painted the cabinets and walls white. It looks fine. After we redo the bathrooms we'll save up and bring the kitchen into this century. But honestly, the green counters aren't that bad if you add other colorful accents.

Purple, virtually any shade, is a good color to use with that '90 green. I have a jacuzzi tub that color and found a gorgeous fabric for window treatments with greens, purples, and creams to tie it all together.

Hey Robin. One suggestion: You have that small piece of green laminate counter in your pass through window. How would it look if you got a remnant granite or marble piece and replaced that? Leaving the cabinets white and painting the walls a soft grey would go really well with Carrara marble. Remnant stone is ultra cheap, especially for a piece that size, and it
would spiff up an area that's more noticeable than the counters
themselves.

Paint the walls first...in a warm white or the palest green. (no grey: everybody has grey!) See how that looks. Painting kitchen cabinets is a long laborious job...several coats of primer, paint and finishing. And the corners will eventually chip...speaking from experience.

Great suggestions y'all! I would not have thought of purple and I'm liking the idea of that either on the lowers or as an accent. I also don't want grey in the kitchen, too overdone and it will be in other parts of the home. Love the idea of a smaller piece of granite for the pass through to the dining room! That may also help me either choose or rule out what I want when we get counters for the whole kitchen. Y'all rock!

I have read that chalk painting kitchen cabinets is not a good idea because they do not wipe clean well. Chalk paint is finished with wax, so it makes sense

Chalk paint can be finished with a poly finished. You don't have to do wax.
