You need some non-brown color in here too -- art is a good way to bring that in, as would be an area rug and/or runner for the dining space, rug for the living space, and throw pillows, etc. Something to give some contrast.

What color are your walls?

The walls are tan with a creamy white trim. Open concept room 39 x 19 living and dining. Adding a picture of kitchen island.

Rather than adding builtins to the living room (or in addition to the builtins), I would paint your cabinets. Then your dining set will work. I would also replace the light fixtures.

I like Beverly's ideas, but I think the TV is too low. You couldn't see it from the kitchen. I don't think you have to match the kitchen cabinets. Do whatever you like.

I like the dining table but I have a mahogany drop leaf table in my dining room!! You could use some furniture to help it along. Sideboard, or a china cabinet.

Yes I want to put a large sideboard with a mirror there. The living room wall is the one I have the issue with.... It is like a black hole. Bought the media console thinking it would be large enough, but not. That's why I was thinking built ins. Cabinet space on the bottom and shelving and the TV on the wall. I can't paint the kitchen cabinets but the base of the island is bead board and I thought to transfer that to the lowers on the living room wall.

What about painting the beadboard, it sticks out because it is white. Then you will see that you can do whatever on the living room wall, and it does not have ot be beadboard.
