Roman shades are wonderful because you custom the size, they provide and lot of privacy if needed, and
dress up a room. They would go with you the style of your dining room. I love what you have done so far!

I love the look of a large floor mirror leaning to reflect the chandelier. However, if you would like to add some artwork that would look amazing too. Just get some silver or pewter frames, mat them, and create a gallery wall with photos or paintings. Enjoy and have fun!

I'm certainly not a designer, but I think those French posters would look pretty good.

You could have a small rod that dies into the wall and has a decorative end cap on the other end, then pull your drapery back to the wall and tie. Or you could hang a drapery panel on medallions and tie back with a holdback against the wall.

Would agree with H&R above about a rod that dies into the wall with a single (full) drapery panel that ties back to the outer wall on each window. You could also go with a flat roman with trim or banding to dress it up a bit.

Perhaps ceiling-height curtains in a light, sheer fabric could work. They would mask the odd shape and size of the windows and extend them to the center wall and make the whole room look bigger.

Consider a swing arm curtain rod for your dining room window. You can search on line to get examples. You can mount on the window trim closest to the corner, or even mount on the adjacent wall. The rods are very reasonably priced. To open, simply pivot the rod, and it rests against the adjacent wall. You can use a beautiful fabric without gathering it on the rod - consider it almost like a wall hanging or a banner on the rod. Or you may also gather the fabric on the rod and even let it puddle. Lots of options depending on the look you are trying to achieve.

I like Diane's idea - you could find a beautiful patterned sheer that gives privacy, elegance and feel like art because of the pattern... I would even consider a ceiling height, board mount so no rod needed. Since you already have the round mirror on the other wall, I'd go with BIG art on the other wall - oversized and colorful.

If that round mirror stays above the buffet, There will be some buffet lamps but haven't found the right ones .

Help! I have a bay window - and I would like to treat my living room with French cafe curtains - hung 3/4 to the top - I have also been thinking of those marvelous Austrian shades of fine lightweight fabric - but I never hear of them be used any longer - also what do you think of stretched (rod at the top and bottom) thin fabric. I am eclectic in my choices.

I had no room for rod with finials over my kitchen sink, and the windows have no wooden trim and there is just an inch clearance before you hit the cabinets on both sides....got creative and used two metal broom holders and a piece of pipe with grommet style curtains.

Hi Lisa, have you considered white shutters? I think they'd frame your buffet perfectly. I do love your light over the dining table. Add some tall buffet lamps that compliment the chandelier or that work with the mirror.

You might also consider adding some tall potted plants in front of the windows or if possible, planting them outside in front of the windows. I love roman shades but they can be bulky and heavy looking for an elegant space like yours. I also love shutters but you should think about the lines the shadows will make across the walls in the room, something you may not want all the time and considering the space limitations, you probably wouldn't be able to pull them away from the window if you wanted to. Since the sun is so strong think about the fade factor of the material you do select should you opt for a fabric. My personal choice is to consider nature as a resource and talk to someone at your local nursery about adding some variety of trees into that space.

I would take the drapery panel all the way to the top just under the ceiling. Use a beautiful sheer fabric so that the light still flows through. The light flowing through will keep your window from closing in on you. Butt the rod up against the outer wall and let the finial feed over into the bulkhead of the wall that runs over the beautiful chest, but just the amount of the finial. Then pull the panel over to the side wall. Then let the panel puddle for a sophisticated look.

Are you thinking of putting a leaner mirror in the alcove and moving the buffet & mirror to the blank wall? Or is there not enough clearance if you move the buffet out of the alcove?

There are great rods that return back to the wall so no finials required. Nd other rods that have simple end caps and use C rings that ride over the brackets so the fabric can butt right up to the wall. And sometimes architecture wins so the solution could be an operational soft roman in a lovely silk fully lined.

I agree, c rings are a good option. I would be tempted to do a corner treatment on each side of the room. This way your drapery literally turns the corner onto the walls without windows. It's a dramatic effect and suits the presence of your dining room. You will need to make sure the pleat you use stacks well. Unless you want a lot of volume don't use a box or inverted box pleat as they take up more room when stacked (open). A top down tac or even a traditional french pleat will work nicely. I would mount your rod 5 " from the ceiling which would allow plenty of room for the diameter of a good size finial. Higher if your installer is comfortable that the finial will have room for some maneuvering. I've used this approach several times in very similar situations with great results. Get yourself a good local designer with access to a good drapery work room and installer. I've included an image and hope you can get a rough idea of such a treatment. These are mounted onto the ceiling but the same works with wall mounted decorative rods. KA

Before you paint the whole room, try painting just the alcove where you buffet and starburst mirror are placed. That could add a little drama without much fuss. I'm not usually a big fan of "accent walls" but I think you have the perfect spot to try another color maybe go a little darker or try the mindful gray. Show us how it looks!

This looks somewhat similar to your arrangement. I don't sell shutters but they do add to the value of your home as well as being functional and not overwhelming in size.

You have a beautiful home. I think we'd all like to get our hands on it! Paint your ceiling in the dining room as it looks like it is a clearly defined space. I like SW Mindful Grey, it's still has some warmth to it. Wall sconces throughout the room and buffet lamps. Are there any pot lights in that space? Dimmers?
Pull out your art and anything else you may want to hang before you paint. Play around with where you like everything and mark those holes so the painters don't fill them. That way it will be all ready to hang in just the right spot when they are finished. Hang your art work lower for dinner guests to enjoy while seated. Wall paper if you don't have original art just yet. Your table is large and a good sized tray with some candles, vases and small sculpture would help personalize it a bit.

I can see your problem with not having enough room for the finnials. I think if it was me who owned this house, I would do a tinted window treatment and then maybe add in a fabric curtain that hangs down from a bar above the window. I'm not a professional, but that's at least what I would do in your situation. Post pictures once you get it figured out; I'm sure we all want to see the end result!

I'm disappointed to say I have not done anything to this dining room yet . It still looks the same ! But I will be painting the alcove soon . This is the only room in my House I cannot seem to makeup my mind on .
