i have the same shape as you. i gave up looking for a rug, the only small ones looked like they are meant for a powder room. i have tile so its less of an issue, i'd just plan to wipe the floor with a half sheet of paper towel (with your foot...) when you are finished loading the dishwasher after a meal. i've gotten really good at not dripping on the floor.

A rug, if it gets wet, is not going to protect the floor from water, as it will seep through very easily, especially with pressure from standing on it. And it won't dry quickly, meaning you could potentially be ruining your floors more with a rug than with nothing at all.

A foam mat that has a rubber backing, like a bath mat, will protect the floor. You could buy one, cut it down to the size and shape that you need, and then cover it in fabric or paint it with fabric paint to a pattern or color that you like.

kchreg..Yes, I checked octagonals which is the best shape, unfortunately all that I've seen are much too large.

I never use a rug in the kitchen IMO they are just tripping hazards

I agree with Patricia. And easier to clean floor than it is to wash a rug.
