Hi, I need your help!! I have been working on my living room for quite some time and I think I'm almost there but it's just not perfect! Something is missing but I don't know what?!!

I know the curtains need replacing, I was thinking white or brown horizontal blinds.. But what else? Help :S

Please excuse the mess in the photos!

It doesn't look like you have any artwork on the wall above your couch. You'll want a nice big piece for that space.

Place something low and small on your mantle, not to interfere with the TV, but it's just acting as a divider right now, and that's boring.

Your fireplace looks very small. I would add something on the floor on either side of it for emphasis - plants, candles, fireplace tools set, etc.

A small cabinet or a bar cart would be pretty neat in the little nook to the right of the fireplace.

Your curtains do need replacing, but I wouldn't do blinds. The upper windows are too pretty to cover. I think some larger panels on the ends with grommets, so they lay nicely, and then sheers all the way across the windows would look much better.

A nice narrow cover for the radiator in the dining room would add a little topside storage to the space while hiding a very useful piece of equipment for the house.

A low storage cabinet for under the painting would serve you well, too.

Artwork and other accessories are needed. You've put a nice abstract in the dining room and need something in the living room. I'd add some abstract that has yellows, oranges as well as blues in it.

Add a console table near the windows, to fill up that curve in the wall, and decorate it beautifully. Add a chair with it's back to the dining room.

Bay window area looks very empty -- is there room there for a decorative chair with a small table, for enjoying afternoon sun?

    Lots of good ideas above.

If you need curtains, consider hanging a rod straight across the outside of the bay window, rather than on the inside. Or a short rod on each side of the outside, if they are purely decorative.

A small bench would be nice in the bay.

I saw a photo in a magazine once of a group (4-5) of small paintings (maybe 8" square, max) hung below the mantle. It looked great and that might work in your space to add some personality to the fire/TV area.

Artwork or a decorative mirror above the sofa? I'm not sure which one will look better?

nchavda88....Please put the artwork above the sofa - you need color.

Nice room but agree that it needs something. Maybe something eclectic,... something a little different than what you already have there. I have modern art in my house but don't think another abstract would add anything, looks like you already have a large one. Maybe drawings, photography or architectural prints, something more interesting.

You have a good beginning. You need color, texture and some pattern. Some thoughts: add some tile to the fireplace below the mantel; remove etagere and add open shelves and accent lights in the niches on either side of the fireplace; add large, colorful art above sofa; bigger throw pillows on the sofa (in different colors and textures). For the windows: Instead of horizontal blinds consider cafe plantation shutters, then add new drapes. I would hang them outside of the bay window and bring in some color (like the blues and yellows in the painting or even some deep fuchsia, which looks great with all of the colors you have). Best of luck! Maria

I love the blue and yellow art! I would put an upholstered chair (or two) (or one and a stool or pouf?) to the left of the sofa - something in a print or color to tie in your artwork. Or, if you prefer neutral furniture, then neutral chairs and throw pillows to bring in the color. It will make the space near the window look better and in my opinion less awkward than a table or something since the height would be awkward. If you're hesitant to do a lot of color, maybe start with navy. White blinds to replace the white curtains. Fuller curtain panels on the side. More accessories, as everyone has mentioned. It's a great space!!

Let's play Switcheroo! Try the dining room art over the couch. Move the glass shelving unit to the dining room near the deck door. Set it up as maybe a bar area? Or fun dishes?

Move the plants down by the beautiful window. If privacy is not an issue and the dark brown drapes are not used, just remove those and leave the white sheers as they are.

A chair in the bay window for sure!
