I would paint that for sure. A lot of that vintage drexel furniture is thin veneer over particle board and won't refinish well. However, the lines of the piece are cool and would look fantastic painted.

Paint the bottom and stain the top. LOVE IT!

Wow so many great idea already! I had to delete my follow up question because you answered one already.

But what color? I am debating white, navy( like the island is dark navy), or stain top but paint bottom like someone said, or black.... The rest of my furniture is dark cherry(recent Drexel buy) and taupe sofa. I am currently leaning toward more navy, teal type of fabric and accessories in the future like cushion or rugs.

1970's is not vintage in any way that needs to be lovingly preserved. Paint it and don't feel bad. Don't paint stuff that's pre-1900 or so. Everything else can get a coat of paint, for the most part. There are a few exceptions, of course.

I almost feel like the piece is to big to be white and that it would overwhelm the room, even with all the white in the kitchen. I say either go a lighter version of the navy or a darker version of the gray. Do you have the color swatches and you could go up or down on them to get a shade? Or guess adding white and playing with your own shade works, too.

I also got this that I won't refinish (other than clean the brass handles) because .. well it is a near perfect condition henredon. It will be placed under the window by the China cabinet.

Oh my cabinet is actually a light gray,not white. my husband thinks a gray console may not go with the living room side of stuff.

My finisher has done some 2 tone (white/gray or white stain) but my husband isn't into that look. I personally love this look that she did.

I think that is a bone white color. Precast material.

Glossy white is not my favorite. I really like the first pic you posted in this last grouping.

Only problem is that my bathroom cabinets are that color, so is my window covering right by the media console area. It may be too much o that medium gray...

It's hard to tell from your picture, but are you using any accent colors other than the navy? If so, I think this piece would look great painted in something bold. A buttery yellow would look great with the navy accents. Coral also looks stunning when paired with navy. You have a TON of options if you move away from neutrals, which you already have a lot of (and I'd put navy in the neutral category as well).

We will be taking our time to put in accent colors using fabric like cushions and rugs. Furniture is an expensive investment and I don't think bright color furniture would suit us in the long run.

I am now considering the RH furniture colors. What do you guys think?

sorry to rehash this post. So Now we have decided to go with French Black (Navy/Gray) color, I'm wondering if you helpful folks can help me find the door /drawer handles. As you can see in the picture, it's got this horse shoe looking pull because you can't put a typical horizontal pull. I don't know what these pulls are called? I only find regular pulls and knobs. I really want it to look more contemporary but the older hardware just looks too old school, not to mention it's really hard to use because the ring thing moves around when I pull the drawers out.

We just ordered a walnut entertainment cabinet from an Amish store. My wife decided to have it painted, gray, rather than stain it. A wood look is nice, but how many different wood pieces do you want in a room? It would be one thing if the woods all matched.

Two neighbors just had their stained oak cabinets painted white, by an excellent house painter. They look so much better painted.,
