There would possibly be room for one small picture on the left side, but I have never had anything hanging there in fear of it getting knocked off by the door. What about a burgundy? Too dark?

Forget artwork, anything you put there would be too small to be significant. Worried burgandy might be a bit of a dead colour, depends on how much light you get, I think I would prefer purple. There are paintable wallpapers you could use that would give the walls an embossed look, if you didn't want a full wallpaper, like in the first photo. You would only want a small design.

Yep, I agree with olldroo (hi Olldroo), since it is such a small space you can go 'wild' with colour and I'd be tempted to go for a striking wallpaper and perhaps even a chandelier. Just to say HELLO to everyone who comes in :-)

Hi Carolins, hope you aren't freezing over there, dd has had more snow in Munich. A "White Christmas" is something they look forward to, but a "White Easter" ????? Ridiculous!!!!!

I do like the idea of a chandelier or even just a pendant light, just be mindful of the height of any males in the house or who regularly call. I'm always getting into trouble when they have to keep ducking.

White Easter indeed. The weather has just gone weird on us. The sun was shining though, so that was good ;-) Ah well, nothing we can do about it. Hopefully the XL winter means we'll have an extra long summer too.

Carolins, there may be hope for you - our summer just won't go away and I am sick of the humidity. You can keep summer as long as you like, when you get it, I will be very happy to have a long winter after this.

I'm going to chime in and agree with the others that this is a place to go bold. Olldroo's shiny wallpapers look great. You can somewhat mimic this idea by painting the walls with flat or eggshell, and then stenciling over with the same color in high gloss. With paint, of course, you can pick any color you like. What color says "welcome" to you?

I think the entrance should also give your visitors a sense of your overall design scheme in the house. If you have country decor, a lime green entry will look out of place. So look around carefully at the style and colors you already have. Choose a light bright shade of your favorite color but don't get too shocking if that's not your style.

Orangecamera's comment about the entry linking to the overall design scheme makes a lot of sense. But you can just go a little bit bolder in a small space like that.
