Camellias and iron

begoniagirl

I live in Orange County CA, one mile inland, and have twenty-something camellias, both japonicas and sasanquas, all between one and ten years old. Some are planted in large clay pots or whiskey barrels and some are planted in the ground next to walkways or the house.

Some are gradually turning a bit yellow from their original deep green. I’m aware that those next to concrete will suffer from alkaline leaching into the soil.

I know this is not the time of year to feed camellias but I’m wondering if it is acceptable to put some granulated Dr. Iron around the plants to retard and perhaps prevent the yellowing.
