Hello, begoniagirl. You may be ok amending the soil if the product has no nitrogen or is low in nitrogen. This is more important in colder locales than in yours though.

Nitrogen keeps the plant in "grow" mode at times when Fall and Winter temperatures get cold. Plants in grow mode can get hurt by early frosts and sub-freezing temperatures. So, in colder zones, one tries to prevent the plant from going into grow mode by using amendments with no nitrogen or little nitrogen. By selecting/using "no nitrogen" products, you can apply the product at almost any time of the year. Which may be useful when one has camellias planted in containers and kept outside during winter.

So, check the label on this Dr. Iron that you mentioned and determine if it has the NPK Ratio displayed somewhere in the label and take action accordingly. I looked online and a webpage said it has a NPK Ratio of 15-0-0. So, I would probably not use that after June or July. But since your winters are so mild, you may be ok using it.

I tend to use greensand or Green Light Iron and Soil Acidifier.
