I think they probably needed to be left on until they turned brown before you harvested them. Lady palms reproduce mostly from clumping and spreading from the roots. Some people consider them invasive.

Thanks. Yes, I collected them after they fell off the stem. They are a nice houseplant in pots, but outdoors in the ground I've seen them 10" tall.
