Are there stairs on both sides of the main landing?

If you were going to do a railing, I think wood would be too chunky. You'd want something metal. I think if you add some taller plants up against the house, where all the orange flowers are now, that would help with the overall look.

I'd also remove the star.

I personally prefer a rail to help with people walking through the grass to the porch and forgetting to use the steps altogether. I would suggest metal balusters and handrail if you decide to go that route. Either way, the exterior looks clean and would be fine with or without railing, it really is a personal preference at this point.

Thinking about a railing...would it make it difficult to bring furniture in if delivered? I would beef up the landscape first and hold off on a railing.

Thats what I was concerned about the post are 4 inch not sure if that would be too big size for the space, its 6x4ft.....? but its no maintenance....

I don't like the idea of vinyl. Reconsider a rail at all if it restricts the entry.

Take a photo to a nursery. We got a free plan as long as we bought the plants from them...they are easy to plant. There is also a Garden Forum on Houzz where pros may be able to help you.

Craig, black recedes, so it's not as noticeable. I wouldn't consider another color iron and I wouldn't do anything too large at all. But I wouldn't do anything, personally. Except maybe some landscaping.

Craig, may I comment on your second door? It needs to be your siding color, as right now it's confusing which one you want your guest to use.
