Paint color on walls with oak trim

I live in a 1940's stucco house. It has great old oak crown moulding and baseboards (6+" each) as well as lots of windows. The walls have been white for 5 years and I'm itching for some color in the living room and dining room. A little embarrassing since both my husband and I are artists! What color paint goes well with the oak trim - it sways towards the orange/brown side. The living/dining room are connected with a large arch doorway (no door). Any suggestions?

If you want the trim to look warmer, use something from the violet/blue/gray family, if you want to play down the orangyness, use a warm color. I'd like a creamy light yellow, such a Behr's "butter cookie". You could use a different but related color for one of the rooms if you want to differentiate them. If you're hanging a lot of colorful art, you might want a light warm gray or tan.

I'd say stay away from the cooler brown colors, but other than that probably anything you like will match. Can you post pictures? That might help?

i'm with barnhart - neutral greens complement the wood tones and still provide all options color wise with decor. however, even finding the right shade has to do with the color story you want your house to tell. what color furnishings and accessories do you have now? since you will have some wood trim and some white trim, we need a tone equal to both that doesnt call too much attention to the mix.
