Definitely lower your television. I would add a mantle right above the fireplace, then mount the TV right above that. Good lighting will be helpful, so yes to the floor lamps. A nice piece of art over the sofa and a bigger, colorful rug. And some accent pillows. With a young baby, you might consider buying a large ottoman to replace the coffee table so there are no bumped heads when he starts walking. Also, the room also feels dark. Black end tables might add to that.

People say it looks to dark and I need color but I am not to big on bright colors. Any ideas on what color the rug could be? What if I put a mirror in the entry way above the table with pictures! Hi Marcy, congrats on your son...enjoy him. I think lamps will really change the feel of your space. try a tall, thin lamp on your entry table, perhaps a buffet lamp so you don't have the harshness of the overhead light. a large piece of artwork over couch will look nice
