the creeping rose from Lens, is on sale right now at Heirloom for $10. I have this rose in a rather difficult situation, on a shaded bank, growing in compacted soil and it has grown very well. It sends out long canes with smallish, shiny green foliage, is completely impervious to BS, and has filled in the bank nicely. It requires no fertilization. It does need some light; it won't grow under the huge rugosas which live at the end of the bank, but neither will much else. I could wish the flowers were prettier, and it only blooms once. It is a good plant for growing over a bed where you plant bulbs, because the roots don't seem to compete with the bulbs.
