I would consider a GE Advantium Speed Oven. It's a combination microwave, convection and speed oven all in one. I have had one for 2 years and I love it. We use the microwave all the time for heating leftovers, making tea, broth, etc. We also use the Speed Oven feature to cook any meat in about 1/3 the time necessary in a regular oven. For example a whole 5-lb chicken or a rack of lamb cooks in about 30 minutes. It's amazing and I would recommend it highly. It costs about $2,000 but is well worth it. Just make sure you get the 240 volt version--it has more power.

Never combine a microwave with a regular oven , microwaves do not last as long as regular ovens these should always be 2 separate pieces

If it helps, I have a Lacanche and had the same thoughts as you. I added a microwave convection oven. If I had to do it over, I would just get a plain old microwave because that it is only part of it we use :) and even that isn't used that much. BTW, we have kids, too. For us, it is definitely not the most used appliance in the kitchen.

I've had the same microwave/convection oven since 1989. I used the oven a lot when we entertained because we only had one oven but we moved to a different house with two ovens so it's not needed as much (although always at Christmas and Thanksgiving). Personally, I think it's great if you're short of space.

I decided to go with Miele. I went to all the showrooms and looked at all the options, and in the end that's what I think is best. The other factor I added into this decisions is that the speed oven (one that has a broiler) can even replace the toaster oven as well. So it's really a 3 in one in that way. I am excited and will report back once it's in!
