With that saucer light you need to do a big decluttering , I would take the top off the hutch, remove all the little pictures off the wall hang some really simple linen drapes with wooden blinds like the other room the blind on the window makes no sense to me color wise or design wise add a larger piece of art where the hutch was and remove the extra chair that doesn’t make sense .When not doing crafts please remove the table cloth

Thank you Mark & PCC! The hutch is not a piece I want at all, but it's a family hand me down that I haven't found a way to work with yet. My husband says the top doesn't come off, but I am wondering, barring making a new choice entirely, if we could have a top made for it. The kids art clutter is being moved elsewhere as I want to use this as our regular dining area. I am striving for a brighter, airier feel for sure. We have a lot of great art in storage.

I would pull the lightest color out of the shade for your drapes. If you can get more of the shade fabric, put a band on the leading edge of your panels.

Thanks torrey! I like the idea of finding more fabric. I also hoped for lighter curtains to play off the blue, but wasn't sure if there was enough contrast to walls, or if would look washed out.
