St. Augustine grass

Ticks everywhere, I am taking at least 6-8 a day off the dog. He's on Frontline so most of them are dying when I see them. What can I put on the lawn now? Is there anything thats organic or do I have to go the agent orange route, which I do not want to do. We are getting a new puppy soon and the ticks are driving me insane, not to mention the dog we have runs away from me when he comes back into the house, cause he knows whats coming.

Short story, our low guy disappeared for more than a few weeks. I have him mow at highest setting, so wasn't concerned that is was just a tad long. By the time I finally tracked down someone to pinch hit, the grass wasn't too bad, but the weeds in the adjacent lot and the weeds in the yard were pretty high. A regular lawn tractor took care of the yard but had to find real tractor to to adjacent weedy lot.

Advice needed, please help.
