Keep the tallest stem staked,maybe just remove the trailers. I have one..and its a Medusa with stems going in all directions.

I think they are sold to look fuller with the extra stems..but like you said,the botanical garden plants are usually one and probably stronger for it.

That's a good idea. I like the crazy shapes they take and how they interweave, so I think I will keep multiple stems but I may cut some of them that are currently on the ground, in hopes of strengthening the others. Thanks for the response.

Usually one stem or two stems become dominant and the rest gradually dry out and vanish. The forests of them in Madagascar (what have survived being destroyed for charcoal production) are amazing.
