Posting a photo from the standpoint of your back against the front window would be very helpful.

It would also be helpful to know the length and width of this space. I think you could put your TV on the long wall where I see the two lamps in the above picture and then "float" some furnishings? But need some measurements. Looks like an interesting home. More pics and measurements please.

The spacing from the kitchen island to the window is just over 15 feet width from tv to opposite wall is 12feet. The dining area is 6'9 wide by 10ft but there's a door to the back that the dogs use daily. I originally had the tv on the long wall but my seating options seemed to only work in a conversation setting with a love seat and two chairs opposite but it wasn't really working at all. OK, I think you could "mount" your TV on the wall across from where it is now, maybe more toward the window wall and then put a "apartment" size (smaller) sofa facing the TV and two small scale chairs one on each end. You might be able to get a very narrow almost like a bench to use as a coffee table but basically, you will need 3'+ some for a "walkway" behind the sofa, then the sofa, which will be about 36"-40" deep, which would leave about 6 more feet to the wall. You could try mounting the TV down more toward the windows and put a sofa in front of the windows (but not right up against them) and get a wall mount for the TV that has a pull out and turn capability. Then you could turn the TV toward the kitchen or seating area. If you put the sofa in front of windows, get a sofa that is no more than 80" - 84" max. so you have space for a couple of end tables. It looks like you have plenty of animals, so you might want to create an interesting "divider" between the "seating area" and the dining area that would be a "cat walk/sleeping" space. Could be fun, creative and useful. Not sure about the doggie needs. I'm more of a cat person. I could see a bookshelf type unit that steps up a 12" block at a time from the first step to the ceiling (where you would need to secure it) and the cat would love to climb up there and look down on his/her territory! Also, provides some safety from doggie! Ikea makes "component" cubes that could be built for this purpose. I'll post a photo for you. That would also break up the space and make it feel more cozy I think.

Something like this. Of course, you couldn't put decorative items on the "stepping" shelves. It could also add to your "storage" with the drawers and doors. It wouldn't completely block off air flow, or views back and forth, but I think it might be a good solution to some of your challenges with the space. We always try to get more out of long spaces, but dividing them up a bit. Perhaps you could get some boxes of the approximate sizes and stack them up at a point that would make sense for the space to create "the living room" and that would give you a good idea where and how to place the TV along the "long" wall. You can also use blue painters tape to tape your floor with the sizes of potential furniture, etc. Leave 3' minimum for walkways. What do you think of those ideas?

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your ideas and show me the shelves. When we moved in the house was "staged" in that exact layout you mentioned. We had a loveseat against the window (not directly) and 2 chairs opposite them with the tv on the long wall closer to the windows. The problem IS/WAS is that my partner and I are both "loungers" and even though our basement has a a giant tv and sectional I want to bring the space to a more open area so I can have more comfortable seating. I'm 5'7 and he's 6'4 so though the room LOOKED good it was not comfortable for us. I like to sit on the floor and do homework at the coffee table and watch tv while we make dinner etc.

I know it's not the most ideal but we both felt opening up the space by placing the tv on the other wall really maximizes space. Can you suggest something where the animal area can be the area beside the main window or does that just make no sense? I am going to make a to scale drawing and post so you can see.
