Hi Donna! What a beautiful picture !!! Sweet expectations!

A little color showing here, I am hopeful that these will have the white picotee and not be just another red. Another couple of weeks I think, they are in a cold, nearly sunless window for now...space is at a premium around here!

Mine is just a smidge further along. I planted just 1 of the 3 bulbs to stretch out the blooms.

That was smart, I should have done that......☺

Oh, Donna, I'm glad that you planted all at the same time! Can't wait to see them all bloom at once:-)

Here in Germany it was offered only by a company I don't like, so I didn't order it and look forward to see your pictures...

Well, I see that Emaryllys has bloom his and I have to say, I'm not too impressed. As he says, similar to Samba but to me, not as nice. A few more blooms will tell.....

Just opened. Tepals seem to flatten over time...good thing! Bulb has no roots at all!

Yes, I have 3 flowers open and I am "patiently" waiting for the illusive white picotee to show its face!! ! I moved them in the sun about 1 weeks ago so I will give them another day to... hmmm... come into their own. So far I'm not impressed but it is a decent rose/red flower open for Christmas (that has to count for something this year) and it has a stubby scape which I always like.

Pictures by tomorrow, I promise, picotee or no picotee!!☺☺☺☺☺

Hi Kristi and congrats on the flower! It does have that Samba shape:) Is the color of the pic accurate? It's kind of a different rose-like shade. Anyway, nice growing as usual. - J

Well, I just tried some shots and strangely enough the camera seems to capture a slight picotee that the naked eye doesn't really see. I had to wait until the sun was off the flower and I think later in the afternoon in lower light it might photograph a bit better.

Yes Jody, you're right, it is a rosy/red whereas Samba is a Chinese red. I think this will grow on me as more flowers open. The pedicels are very short which causes the flowers when open to slightly deform each other. Also the first bud to open only has 2 flowers, others are going to have 3 and others will have 4 so it should be quite a show through to New Year's!!

Also, I just noticed how short the filaments are, the stamens form a little circle cluster in the center of the flower.

Here's another picture of Magical Touch, she sure is looking Christmasy!!

In the evening in very low light, her picotee does show quite a bit so all in all, I'd say I'm happy with her/them!!☺☺

Here is a good shot of the crinkly edges with a decent picotee. I think that next year when these bulb are blooming on roots, they will be outstanding! I really like the cherry red color too!!

Second scape just opened. They improve over their first few days.

Well, I wasn't going to but I couldn't stop myself from dabbing some of last year's donated papilio pollen on two of the flowers as well as Fire Blade on another. Hoping for a cybister shape, with Magical Touch's great color!! So far they don't look like they've taken but it was worth the try.

I should have done what Kristi did and allowed one at a time to bloom, mine will be all through in about a week! Unfortunately, I don't have any Chico pollen which would have been my first choice. And, of course I saved most of the pollen...

Here's my other 2 pic taken by phone. My old point and shoot Sony still takes a lot better pics! The phone is just convenient as I can mark it up with "Maria" right there in the phone. No more transferring of files to pc etc. etc. I wonder if it will grow a little bit longer pedicels next time it blooms. I don't like my flowers upward facing and so cramped up together.

Yes, the flowers were very cramped on all of mine too. I rather think that these short pedicels is a trait of the variety but at least it's got a nice short sturdy stem.

All I use are my 2 old Sony point and shoot cameras too and they are still working fine for me and I can still get some really nice pictures with no fuss. Pictures of red however do blow out but I'll bet that far more expensive cameras do the same unless you've got a Master's in camera settings!!

I'm curious if anyone has tried to hybridize with Magical Touch? I wasn't going to, seriously, I wasn't going to but at the end, I could resist putting some defrosted papilio pollen and Fire Blade pollen on a few flowers. They all appear (4) to have possibly taken especially the 1st one I did with papilio! The pedicel has lengthened considerably considering that they were virtually non existent, so....

wouldn't a cherry red papilio shaped flower be just too nice!!! I did 2 of each so if they are successful and I get good seeds I should be able to share some. Keep in mind, I am working on bulbs with no roots at all so anything or nothing is possible!

I'll keep you posted. This picture shows a very small seedpod but I am hopeful guys!!

Donna, this looks very promising! :-) I guess I would love those flowers because I liked Magical Touch's color very much but not its shape.

I remember that I had a Rebecca bulb last season without any roots that seemed to take every pollen but after a few weeks started to abort the pods. I removed all of them immediatly and left them on a plate hoping they would ripen there. They didn't look good but in the Rebecca x Papilio pod I found some seeds in the end. They were very pale but two of them germinated and the seedlings are growing nicely.

These bulbs are wonderful and full of surprise:-)

Thanks!!! Sometimes a rootless bulb will produce good seeds, I had it happen twice, once on a Chico and once on President Johnson....several years ago.

I eventually did lose my President Johnson, it rotted over the summer...

here is my Magical Touch that I have blooming right now. One pic is with the flash and the other is without the flash. I am very impressed with this new Amaryllis and will buy another one next year to bloom inside for me!

It's so hard to judge the color in photos! The flower looks almost salmon pink the second photo (without flash). In any case, it's beautiful! I'll have to look for one next year.

The colors in some of the photos further up in this thread are more indicative of the color. It is to me a cherry red with no orange at all. Photographing reds of any type have always been a problem for me but this one appeared to photograph true for me in several photosl Maybe it's the absence of orange or blue, I don't know......

I have no roots on any of my 3 presently and the bulbs after each blooming with 2 stalks have shrunken severely. I think they will be fine but will have a lot of growing to do to fill out the shrunken skin and bloom again!!☺☺

And of course, I'm not helping matters any by trying to get them to set seedpods!!

Donna...I played with my flowers too and pollinated 1 or 2 flowers with Jungle Lady. Seedpods are just 1 week old so it's too early to tell. Nothing to lose! Ha!

I put some TT pollen on a couple of flowers. Also have some Pap pollen.

Well, good luck to us all!! I'm going to put some Thai Thai on Exotic Star when it blooms. What I thought was Exotica, small bulb with 2 stalks emerging is Exotic Star, I red the label up-side-down and got it wrong.

Magical Touch pods are all jobbing out!!! Five of them, 3 papilio and 2 Fire Blade. For those of you who held off blooming yours, the sky may be the limit!!

Dave, You got a great shot showing the color and picotee very well, and I didn't think too much of mine either at first, but these flowers seem to get better after a few days. If you've got any cybister pollen give it a try, she seem agreeable to anyone!!

Yes, it is very pretty!! A good new addition to some of our collections. My bulbs have grown nice thick large leaves so I think it will do well another year too!!

Every last one of my pollination attempts failed though; how about the rest of you that tried?

i had two bulbs. neither had stay ability in the flowering stage, although one sent up a second single flower. it was pretty much 'poof' in a week. other bulbs of other vars., IMHO, have had better flower stay ability. but the picotee was sweet …

I forgot I had 2 more bulbs in the fridge! I planted 1 with 2 fat scapes!
