Thanks, mikecowley. I want to connect to my iPad or iPhone, but my home signal does not reach out there. Someone in another forum suggested I try an inexpensive router and cover it to protect it from sun and humidity.

A friend said I should have it plugged into a surge protector. You may notice, I am clueless with electronics ;)

What you need is a router, not a router and modem (not that you can't use one, they just tend to be more expensive). What you are trying to create is an "access point" and you can buy a dedicated device called an access point but generally speaking they tend to be more expensive than just a plain router. Frankly almost any router will do, so if you happen to have one in the closet or have a friend or family member with an old one, use that. If you want to buy one, buy a cheap one.

After that it's a matter of setting it up. Some routers will have the ability to function as an access point built into their firmware. If it does, that will save you a few minutes of set up time. Otherwise, it's just configuring the router, which is relatively easy to do. Once you get your new (or used) router, let us know make/model and someone can help you through the setup process.

Heat and humidity is not good for any electronic device so you'll need to figure out a way to protect it.
