It depends on the style of your home, and the style you want inside with your furnishings. There is not one right answer.

i like the square balusters of patrick's last photo. i find they look good with all sorts of decorating, even modern.

arts and crafts is really popular right now, but i'd not want to hedge myself in too much, it won't always be.
