Kitchen hood/range issues

last modified: 9 years ago

Hi! I live in a condo, in a divided home, in the first floor unit. My range is currently installed in the kitchen island. It's a JennAir downdraft (gas, slide-in). Because there is no room between my ceiling and the 2nd floor unit, a vented hood is not an option. Downdraft gas ranges are insanely expensive (since JennAir is basically the only company that makes them - I think Kenmore has one model). I am thinking my best bet is to get a nice slide-in gas range and a ductless range hood and install that over the island where my pot rack/light combo is. From what I can tell, that would cost me about $1,500 all in if I shop some good sales, while a new downdraft would run me almost $3,500 (and they don't seem to ever go on sale). Has anyone run into a similar issue? Does this sound like my best option? Thanks for any advice!
