It doesn't look gray, it looks blue!

Sorry, the tile doesn't look gray? It is. Must be the light/photos. It's not exactly what I would buy, just laid out a couple of samples to show an idea of the gray tile vs. wood floor. Do you have a preference?

A warmer gray tile would probably be better. Again, that isn't the tile I'll use. Just a couple of dark gray large tiles that I had from another project.

No one has an opinion? Hardwood guy will be here tomorrow and I'd love to be able to have a decision made!

the light gray on the wall could work

I don't think the wood looks right against that beautiful vanity. Gray tiles should be easy to find. I agree with others that a lighter gray would be better. Something like this would be great

Heck, grab some samples from Lowes -- you can probably find a light gray tile that will look great with your vanity for $2/sf or so!! I can think of several candidates without trying hard!

if it's a small bath, why can't you find a few boxes of the french oak wood flooring like in the inspiration pic? Check Craigslist for people trying to unload a few boxes of their flooring. I scored mine on there. Would actually look good w/the vanity!

can you do something along these lines? wouldn't be that expensive. they also have this type in a more grayish hue as well.

I suggest a lighter warm gray or even a taupe floor tile. If you go with a wood floor, I would not do the provincial stain-. You don't say where you are from but you really should not have a problem finding a nice lighter gray or taupe floor tile for about what you are expecting to pay for the hardwood flooring. Thanks for the comments. This is a guest bath on the 2nd floor. The whole house has the 4" oak provencial floors (or will next week - 2nd floor where this bath is are going in this week). The floors are $6 ft2 installed. I tend to be a serious tile snob, as in I really don't care for the stone look tiles (I like natural stone) and I don't care for the wood look tiles (especially in this space as it will butt up against the provencial wood tiles). Im also picky about the size and shape of tile. I'm north of Atlanta, so I have incredible selection, but I at the end of a 4 year renovation and sick of spending money (and tired of going to tile stores...I have frequented 5 or 6 way too much the past few years). I originally chose a Carrera mosaic for this room, but when I laid it out yesterday, decided I didn't like it at all. Too busy and too light. I'll post a photo in a bit. I'll pull some light gray out...I probably have a few samples...to see. I just always end up with the $20 ft2 tile, and I already lost money on the mosaic purchase. 1st design flub in 4 bathrooms and kitchen, so I'm ok with it, but I don't want to spend any more, but I may have to. Ugh.

I'm not as excited about the grey tile - light or dark. But I do like the terra cotta runners pictured in the first photo. Have you considered this color in a clay tile? I suggest this spanish tile because the vanities have a rustic look. The polished, symmetrical look of the tiles you have placed for trial don't really bring it all together. There are clay tiles available with streaks of greys and creams that would tie it together. And it would look beautiful next to the wood floors. A light grey runner in front of each sink would bring the neutral color to the forefront you're looking for. With the cost of replacing fixtures, you could leave them in place. They would look beautiful and save you some money that you'll spend on the tile.

Kitchen

2 of the bathrooms that are complete. 3rd is in progress. It is in the basement, which has a slightly more modern feel, it has polished concrete floors (gray) and a more modern wood vanity.

This is part of a 12x24 from specialty tile. Looks like it's called lave monitored. I think this is the best. Anyone have an opinion on this tile? The lighter grays aren't my style, really. I don't love a 12x24, but I might deal with it.

What you've done so far look really nice. I believe you should go with your gut, because so far you have nailed it.

Definitely not the oak floors. They take away from your unique, gorgeous vanity.

I'm afraid to commend on the gray, because the color of your vanity varies across the rainbow in your different photos, so it's hard to tell what the grays really look like.

In your inspiration photos, the floor is definitely what brings in the cool tones that justify the use of gray counters and paint, etc. Your original sample (2nd photo in your post) was way darker and bluer and wasn't going to capture that feel.

The new photos are so dark that I can't really assess the coolness or lightness of the tiles. I guess, too, it depends on what you're doing for your counter -- is that already chosen? You'll want the tones to blend, so I'd try to get them into the same room before deciding for good. However, the first photo of your last post above appears to capture some of that same feeling of a cooler tone from your inspiration. Had I not seen any of the rest, I'd be arguing for the much lighter gray, lest your room be super-dark, but I trust that it's actually paler, as your vanity is, and that you're probably on the right track. Prefer this direction to the marble mosaic by far.

Thanks for the responses! I actually called a decorator I used for a couple other things and she is coming out today to help me finalize my decision. Countertops and other fixtures not yet chosen...I was waiting to see what the vanity and floor looked like installed before choosing other things . I had decided on polished nickel faucets, but that can easily change if it doesn't work.

I'm with everyone else on the "No to the hardwood colour". The hardwood stain clashes with the vanity. Which is why you want to work with a tile like the one you show in your inspiration pic. The strong blue is lovely....but not my style. It would work - as would the mosaic tile (the white with gray). Again, I'm not sold on either one.

The easiest way to deal with this: pay the price for the tile that you like (as you've stated, you are a tile snob and prefer not to down grade) and be done with it. Get the tile and finish the darn thing.

The hardest way to do this: keep looking at tiles to save a few bucks and have a bath that in another year or two (when you forget the pain of the reno) you are not very fond of.

Which are you most sick of: spending money or spending time? Choose the lesser of the two evils.
