I'm wondering the same thing...Is the table sealed?

kattie89 & dliska88, don't purchase this table unless you are ready to spend more to seal it. I'm getting quotes right now. Just an FYI, I was told by RH to only use a "dry, soft cloth", ha. As is, when I wipe it with a lightly moist cloth, the varnish comes right off onto cloth, and leaves a noticeable area on table where wiped. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

Oh no!!!! I was just about to order...Is it as simple as coating it with a coat of polyurethane?

The two quotes I've received so far are $580, and $690, not including pick-up/delivery. I have one more quote coming in tonight, he's supposed to be cheaper. My husband may just do it...although, not sure with what. I've heard a range of opinions on which application works best, from catalized lacquer to a vinyl sealer to conversion varnish, ugh! ;( I'm confused.
I wish I didn't like the table so much, and I wouldn't have to deal with it, ha! Good luck!

Elijane, did you get the table sealed? how did it turn out? What did you use? We are thinking about buying this table, have kids and want to make sure it lasts more than 2 days. thanks

It is much more rustic, but we ended up buying a table on etsy from Duff Powell of Driftwood Treasures. It is made of driftwood, SEALED, and gorgeous. It works great in our beach house. We couldn't be happier that it is one of a kind, too!!

Mandgde, We have not sealed it yet, although we plan to. We basically use place mats and coasters every time, until we can get to sealing it. I just couldn't find another table that I honestly loved as much as this one. Call me crazy, ha.

Could you not get a glass top custom made to fit in top? I am considering this. Any comments????

Here's what it looks like. I'm happy with it. I love the feel of wood but had to compromise.

we actually sealed the top and it looks good. it is a little darker than the rest of the table but it is better than red wine stains. I used minwax polycrylic satin finish.

did you use a brush or a roller? I just ordered this table...

I called a local glass company, they came to measure and had it done for me within 2 days.

i didn't use either. I used a soft white cloth using long strokes.

thanks...I spoke with the salesperson at restoration hardware...she said a lot of people seal their tables with polyurethane. She also told me that the tables are guaranteed for life but the guarantee is void if you "alter" the table

Could I see a picture of what it looks like sealed?

Has anyone gotten a bench for this table? RH doesn't sell them but I was thinking about having one made...

How funny to learn that everyone has this same experience, buying RH and being surprised by the lack of durable finish...
I too went the route of water-based polyurethane - "Varathane Matte Polyurethane."
Overall, I think it's a nice finish, but it seems like it may have slightly yellowed the color of the finish.
Afterward, I did a quick internet search and found a good article on selecting a finish.

From this, it seems that acrylic-based finishes may have been a better choice to prevent from yellowing lighter-colored wood finishes. But all considered the polyurethane should do fine too.

I have the RH table and after condensation from a glass left marks on the table (through a table cloth!) I realized what a mistake it was to purchase. You literally cannot get it wet. RH is sending me a replacement table that I will seal. Do not buy this table without intending to seal it.
