Yes...it's has anti imflammatory properties, helps heart and immune sys. Just don't overdose it or you can make it toxic for your dog.

Might be worthwhile talking to your vet about doing a loading dose (one shot every 3.5 days for a month) of Adequate im. Worked really well with my dog and friends horses. Helps about 80 percent of dogs. You'll know after about 3 weeks if it is helping. Your vet can show you how to give the shots...they are really easy to give.

Costs about 250. for the loading dose. Then you don't do it again for 6 mo to a yr.

I give my pup a squirt of Grizzly Oil (salmon) once a day. Have no idea if it does any good.

At our dermatology vet's recommendation, we give it to our 3 Maltese because of their environmental allergies. We give it to our Basset hound because of his age and his arthritis. Does it help the dogs? Probably. Our Maltese girls still have allergies, and our 12-year-old Basset hound still has arthritis (but does seem to be getting around better after being on the oil for 2 years), but I do not know where the dogs would be medically if they had not had the salmon oil as part of their diet. I have read reviews saying that the reviewer's dog would not eat any food with the oil on it. I had a problem with one of our Maltese when she was very young, although that distaste seems to have gone away.

Everything I have read indicates dogs do not naturally have those fatty acids available. You might want to read the following web site at Pet Education. Puppywire gives you the 6 top brands of salmon/fish oil and tells you how they differ. I use Grizzly Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil. You can get it from a number of on-line vendors. I wanted the wild caught salmon as opposed to farm raised salmon. I buy the 62 ounce size because I have 4 dogs. The container has a chart as to how much to give dogs, depending on their weight. I like it because I can just press the pump and put it directly on the dogs' food. The Maltese are 6, 5 and 4 lbs, they only get 1/2 pump, but the Basset weighs 100 lbs, so he gets 5 pumps. I would start slow with the oil so your dog's digestive system can adjust, preventing loose stools.

Many give fish oil for the high fat content so as to help with fur appearance. Never seen a study re joint help from high fat additives???
