Will cabinets darken over time to match?

My cabinets in my home look very similar to these. 2 of them broke and a wood worker made custom cabinets to match but the color is not even close. They look more flat brown without the yellow highlights or rich colors. He said they will match over time. Is that true or is the lye what brings out the yellow tones?

Gretchen, I reached out to Gene, who built and colored these cabinets with lye. Here is his response:

With respect to the cherry, the lye artificially aged the wood. The same thing would happen over time but I'm not sure how long it would take. If her cabinets are cherry then they will darken with time. However the older cabinets will continue to darken, so the newer ones will never catch up. If they are cherry I would take the new doors off and put them in direct sunlight. Keep an eye on them because they will darken pretty quickly.

    Hope this helps!!!

Thank you so much. I am actually concerned about them getting darker. It seems that the gold and reds are not there and the cabinets actually look Brown or flat. Do the reds and yellow come back over time or ??? Would love his thoughts. I might just need another set made. These might not be done correctly. Thanks again for your help.
