Vitamin D3

I'm researching a good brand of Vitamin D3. Does anyone here take them, if so, what brand? I'm hoping to find one without fillers.

Unfortunately vitamins are not subject to FDA regulations. Manufacturers can voluntarily submit their products for testing by USP, so I would look for a brand with that certification.

I use Nature Made, which is USP certified. The D3 comes in either gelcaps or tablets.

I remember reading that Nature Made was rated well in Consumer Reports as well for having good quality, so that was reassuring.

What is vitamin D3 taken for.

    thanks

For a lot of reasons, like good cardiovascular health, bone strength, even for good mental health. Especially for those who don't spend much time outdoors.

Vitamin D deficiency. I found out I was low a couple of years ago on a routine blood test. It can affect energy levels and bone health. There have been studies linking low vitamin D to certain cancers, but more recent data don't really show as much of a link. Even my doctor said the data are all over the place on it.

I just had my D3 tested a couple of weeks ago along with my thyroid T3, T4, estrogen, progesterone and DHEA. I don't have the numbers in front of me but she remarked that my D3 looked GREAT...I wish my progesterone was as good :( I take 10,000 units a day because I have MS. I use the Spring Valley brand I get from WM. Apparently it's doing a good job.

I use the Kirkland brand from Costco.

I buy the Kirkland brand from Costco too. Years ago, I tested low. My endocrinologist was asking about my sun exposure and I thought I was about to receive a scolding for tanning, I was deeply tanned at my July appointment that summer. No, she was concerned about my D level which showed low. DH's did that year too and we are totally outdoor people with reasonably healthy diets.

We both take the Kirkland gelcaps and have tested well within the normal range every year since we began.

I've been using the Nature Made brand for several years (it's about the only brand of supplements I buy except for Fish Oil which I order from Amazon and buy with the same standards mdln refers to). I also take a calcium supplement with D3. My last checkup showed excellent D3 levels.

Mdln, thank you for the tip pointing out how to verify from the label. I checked this morning and the Kirkland Signature from Costco are USP verified. And I think bottle of 600 softgels was approximately $12 - a 10 month supply for two if my math is correct before I've finished my first cup of coffee.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up ordering Nature wise, since they do not have corn, soy or artificial coloring. Also, they do have NSF ratings.

It was helpful to know about the certifications , so thanks for that info mdln.

It's difficult finding the right vitamin brands.:((

I buy several different items made by Sports Research on Amazon and have had amazing results. They aren't cheap but they are excellent quality.

Iukkiirish...I almost got those, had them in my cart at Amazon, but some of the reviews scared me off. The ones stating the pills clumped together and had a foul odor.

.eta....I was referring to the vD3 in that brand.

I use liquid drops, since they are supposed to be more easily absorbed. Seeking Health D3 at Amazon

Monica, are you familiar with Dr. Terry Wahls and her experiences with MS? Her story inspires me.

Antimo, honestly, if I had to guess I'd say they are fake reviews. I've been buying the Krill Oil, D3, Turmeric and L-Thesine for both my husband and I for years and have never ever experienced anything negative. Last year, I actually tried the Mega Red Krill oil for a while to try to save money. I use the Krill for some athritic pain I get in my arms, hands and shoulders. Within a month of switching, my pain returned. The pain has also returned a couple of times when I was out and kept forgetting to reorder them. They really are super good quality.

Thank you. I'll believe you over the amazon reviews. Interesting about the krill oil for arthritis.

You're welcome, yes among several of its benefits it helps with joint function. One of the doctors I know through work combines holistic medicine with his conventional Internal Medicine Practice. My DH now sees him for his primary care and the Krill oil is just one of several things he's suggested to help boost my DH's immune system. I read up on it and found it's good for a lot of things including joint issues and started taking it too. A plus is that it works wonders with skin as well (similar to Vitamin E but better).

I should note that the capsules are made with organic gelatin, so of course because of their texture, they may stick to each other but the Vitamin D has no oder that I've noticed.
