It's laminate but needs replacing due to water and pets.

Is there any specific reason you are staying with vinyl? Also, what are the floors in adjoining rooms, ones that are visible to the kitchen?

All the rooms are visible to one another. I didn't mention a utility room and small bath as well. The utility room is visible to the kitchen with washer, dryer and hot water tank. I have four pets so I need durable and water resistant and since I would like all rooms to match this was my thoughts of vinyl and everyone I have talked with at the flooring stores says this would be my best option.

Her reason might be pets? Very practical.

Thank you Kris. Yes definitely pets..... I have a husband that has MS as well and he can drop things easily and cause dents so I think this might hold up better as well. Then too he could end up in a wheelchair and needing something practical as well.

Also can you send a pic of the counter tops and kitchen color. What color/finish are the appliances?

What color is the kitchen? Do you have windows? From the pics it looks dark...can understand vinyl if you have pets. Again, what is the flooring in the adjoining rooms?

My walls are a medium tan color but want to paint them when I get new flooring. I have carpet in a bedroom and in living room that connect to the dining room. The carpet is a medium to light beige. I lean toward the neutral colors or earth tones. I am not a fan of the hand scraped look that is real rustic. I brought a few pieces home and it doesn't look good with the cabinets and other furniture.

Since your kitchen cabinets are maple and just beautiful, they have a smooth grain. You didn't say if you have windows, meaning natural light? The only rooms I was referring to were the ones you view from the kitchen. Bedrooms don't count. It is only what you see from the kitchen. Do not try to match the kitchen cabinets as nothing will really work. Try a LVT like Armstrong Alterna in a light color. Good luck.

Thank you for the compliment on the cabinets. That is the problem we are having is what works in the kitchen doesn't work in the other rooms. We have lived with the samples over the weekends and put them in different areas with different light but it's so hard. We don't get much natural light. I have a kitchen window that my lovely neighbor decided to build a shed in front of that blocked that light :( In the dining room I have a slider but it is light from a breezeway. The only other light I have is coming from a living room window. You can see the bedroom that is off from the dining room on one side and the living room is on the other side of the dining room. It's a different concept I suppose but that is why I am trying to get everything to tie in together. I love the look when everything flows together. Thanks for your help.

Summation:

You will be fine....., consider to brighten up the floor and not try to match it with the cabinets, as unless you install maple hardwood floors, it will not happen. However, in the end, you will do what you ultimately want. It's not that hard. Take a deep breath and go with your gut. You have the advantage of seeing everything......, online, it becomes difficult to recommend. A 1 hour consult, depending on the region you live in, could be anywhere from $150 - $300.00 for 1 hour. This could be the best 1 hour cost you will ever spend. Good Luck

We were told to go darker to add contrast to the kitchen cabinets but then darker seems to make the dining room furniture, baseboards, door facings and the works look weird together. It's a battle that I didn't see coming. I would love hardwood but it's not good for our lifestyle and having to deal with the possibility of water issues. I did think of a designer and mentioned that to the associates at the flooring stores and they just said I would probably be talked into something I really didn't like......uggh. Guess that's why I am here.....hoping and crossing fingers.

Relax, there is no battle. Salespeople are not designers as Designers are not sales people. They do not talk you into something they are selling. We are professionals that assess and determine lifestyle needs, incorporating a flawless finish. Call a few designers in you area. Request a 1 hour consult. They should be able to calm and complete your request. Be very clear on what you exactly want to avoid scope creep. Good Luck

I am afraid of making a mistake that I will have to live with. Guess you can tell my nerves are shot huh? I have a lot on me with my husbands illness so I think it's coming out through trying to decide and I'm not doing so well at it.
