My first suggestion would be to get a ping pong top that can be used over the pool table - having both takes up a lot of space.

You need a WARM color - the gray is awful. Think a soft green and if you like grey, something with more green in it.

What isn't working for you currently? It appears that you have space for all the areas you need, and your arrangement makes sense. If you are trying to change the colors, start with the rug and sectional.

It looks like a good use of space to me.

I would change the rug to something with colors you want and then go from there the art is too smll for the wall and hung too high get one big piece for there IMO you need blinds on the windows on either side of the fireplace , it must be hard to watch T.V when the light comes through there

How about moving your sofa and tv into the space where the pool table is, put the pool table and the ping pong table, in the space where the sofa and ex. equipment are now, put the exercise equipment in the space where the ping pong table is now. This way the large space will be dedicated to game room space. The way the space is now, nothing seems grounded, you're mixing your furniture with the game room equipment and it makes it feel disjointed. There's a program online called Roomsketcher, it allows you to put your room dimensions and furniture dimensions in and visually see how it will look before you move that heavy pool table. Hmm, not sure about moving the pool table as Tri R above suggests (sorry!) as they require a lot of clearance and I doubt it would fit in the TV space alone let alone together with the ping pong table!

wow bellburgie! The awful gray is featured in most magazines and my daughter has cerebral palsy and also has physical therapy but she needs to use the equipment every day. Hence the post saying we were incorporating.

Decoenthusiast, I agree it is too small but I thought we had it figured out...It is possible ot was moved farther into the room because of where the overhead light was put in. I would love to have the ping pong top instead. My son's told us that the height was wrong but since they aren't going to the world championships anyways (irony), maybe that should be a fix.

I love to girl rooms up. Maybe a nice aqua or lavender on the walls? Or a sunny yellow if you can change the couch. Maybe reupholster the couch in a happy green?

Would it be easier on your daughter to have her equipment nearer the stairs? If you get rid of the pingpong table in favor of a top on the pool table (my dad has been wanting one for years - it's a popular choice for sure), you could move her things to the wall where it currently is. That should give a lot more clearance for walkers and wheelchairs at the very least.

I like your son's art - he has good taste in movies. They do look very small on that wall though. Could you arrange them vertically on a different wall? Then you could find a larger piece that you and your daughter like for that huge wall.

And last, some pretty drapes for those windows. If you hang them at ceiling height, the room will look much taller and less basement-y.

Haha 123! Yes, he does love his Star Wars. I think I will move them - it's funny how you think you should center things and that is the only rule of hanging artwork. Yes, it would be easier to have the equipment somewhere else. I think that is what we should do - get the table top version of ping pong. And I will try new curtains curtains at ceiling height - anything to get that basement feeling out. If I did paint the room sunny yellow, should the couch be more neutral white? And I was initially leaning towards a pale aqua. :)

Rebecca Mitchell, thank you for the help. Sometimes it is overwhelming to start a search for things like carpets. I could be searching for weeks. And if you know of some, I would like suggestions on artwork. That would be wonderful!

White and yellow are great together - always a nice way to brighten a room. I actually love white furniture, since it looks classy and you can dress it with whatever accent pillows you want. And since your kids are grown up, they're less likely to leave grape juice stains and such. (that said, I have a brother who just turned 20 and isn't allowed anything other than water when he visits)

If you want to keep the couch as-is, you could probably go aqua or coral tbh. I can't read the colors very well from pictures, so you definitely want to get some swatches and look at them in the light. Of course, I'm still team white sofa - that old girl looks like she's definitely due for a facelift.

I agree with trying to convert the top of the pool table with a cover for ping pong; hope it works. Then your daughter can be given 1/2 the room behind the couch (see feel in first picture). She could decorate her side with wallpaper on back wall, or her art or a wall unit for her music and books. Two rugs will define each space and I would center tv between the windows (suggest adding grey linen roman blinds), move the couch into the middle of the room and a console/lamp on the left wall and add your art choices above the console. The room doesn't have to be girly to feel warm and feminine. Add fake fur throw and lux pillows, lanterns, baskets, etc. If you want color, just add some colorful pillows. Every girl likes horses and she may love that look - see last picture for a great wall in her space.

And I love the pictures with the whites/tans and the luxe pillows, etc. She does like horses. I was thinking of the two different areas as well, and funny enough, we had it arranged that way at first but I had to try to get the ping pong table in there. :)

Etsy is great for original and affordable artwork. I'm not convinced about hanging curtains from the ceiling - would recommend simple white inside-mount blinds in those two windows. Unless you are referring to the large window behind the exercise bike? This could have floor to ceiling curtains definitely - but again I think I'd stick with white. Unless you get white sofas... then you could take a colour from the rug or artwork for these curtains if you prefer. I would work with what you have first and see how it improves with new rug, artwork and configuration. Then see if you want to make major changes/purchases.
