Kitchen Trash Pullout Double or Single?

I am remodeling my kitchen and want the extra 3 inches for larger drawers so I am considering a single trash instead of a double. I will never fill up both cans with trash but was thinking about recycling for the others. The difference in the interior dimensions of the drawers for silverware and towels would be 16.75 or 19.75.

Any thoughts?

I LOVE my double trash pullout. We use one for trash and the other for recyclables. Well worth the space, IMO. Previously we had had to store recyclables in our basement, which was a real hassle.

The double is the way to go, separates the recycling. Love mine.

Thanks for the insight. We are not required to recycle here but I do recycle paper and bottles. I am thinking I could put a single in my island which would be closer to the where paper and bottles generates from. So does anyone use both trash cans for actual trash?

I generate far more recyclable waste than trash so both cans for me would be recycling. I would encourage you to do whatever makes it most convenient for you to up your recycling.

I always use doubles...but really like the double from Hafele that includes a compost bin. With a double beside (if there is room) you have two recycle, one trash and one compost. Take a look at this link:

If I had had the room I would have put in two double trash pull outs. As it stands we have a compost bin under the sink, with a box for paper recyclables next to it. Then our double pull out is used for trash and mixed glass, plastic and metal recyclables. Actual trash is what I need the least space for.

I have a galley kitchen so we chose a single to save inches. But we were able to fit a bin for recycling in the cabinets under the sink (I don't keep cleaning supplies under there because of kids).

Those are nice, I'd love them. But I don't have the room either. Garbage under the sink, and two recyclable bins in the pantry.

I have an 18" double and love it. Be sure to get a top-mount like the one Ironwood shows. I dislike my bottom mount; trash can go everywhere.
