Not certain quite yet but seems all offer the style. A friend is a builder and got me his cost. Kitchen was $23K and my cost is $10K going that route. Still shopping.

I love natural wood and I haven't wavered. My natural hickory cabs were just delivered last week and I can't stop grinning.

I have never been one to follow trends anyway. I do things that please me.

I've always had painted cabinets during the past 50 years, and wouldn't have anything else. Nothing to do with "trendy", just my preference.

Are you leaning to a two finishes final result? sounds that way....White perimeter in shaker can't really disappoint.....look for a stain you'd like for the island in wood...this will allow some personal choice and not too much second guessing.

I would go painted and either natural walnut for island or a darker paint/stain than the perimeter.

Love stained wood cabinets, but with a very small kitchen and walnut HW floors needed white painted cabs to not make it seem even smaller.

Make the choice on what YOU like and what will work best for your space.

I love stained but worried about it being too dark for my kitchen, so I'm going with a two toned kitchen, stained wood on the lowers, a creamy painted white on the uppers. I've found a number of photos where others have done this, and I love the look. For example, here is a lovely such two toned kitchen, giving it a feel of being added on over time. I hope to replicate this look when we begin our remodel in the spring. If you can't decide between, this could be a good in between option.
