How should I decorate the space between the 2 windows?

The space in between the windows is 6.5 ft from side to side. I don't want to put a TV there and also don't want to cram the space. I'm a kinda minimalist. Thank you in advance!

Either a large picture would work , or some kind of storage cabinet... it's a beautiful room!

Yes, a nice large abstract piece of artwork.

We agree with the comment above! It's a beautiful room. The center wall is ideal for artwork. The area above the fireplace would be wonderful for a large antique mirror. Clocks also seem to be a popular choice; however the style of the room would lend itself to an antique mirror in metalllic frame. For anything between the windows we would recommend a large frame (6" wide) to go around whatever art you select. This will help visibly proportion the art against the windows and tall curtains.

You have a room of isolated items. A large rug will help pull thins together, but you also need tables, lamps, and art.

A console table or buffet with a lamp/art/decor

More pictures of your room would help. Do you have/want a coffee table? The sofa and chair need to be close enough for people in each to talk easily.

    Right now they seem disconnected.

Art is also good as mentioned.

The scale of the room would benefit from a statement armoire on your 6.5ft wall. Solid doors will keep with your desire for 'less clutter' -
Also, it's difficult to tell from your photos, but if you can move your furniture closer together for ease of conversation. An area rug would help in this endeavor.
As to art or mirror above the fireplace - while I do love antique glass mirrors, your room would be better served with a lovely piece of art to warm the space. You could try both neutral or color to achieve the desired look.

Are the two sofas the same size? They could face each other in front of the fireplace.

Thank you for your suggestions! We were initially thinking to put this piece in the space between the windows but I'm not sure if I will like the clutter. I do like the open concept idea instead of bulky looks. Any thoughts?

A rug is an excellent idea to pull the room together.

    No shelf between the windows.

Your room is beautiful but it lacks utility. Where are the tables to place a drink? The lamps? Coffee table + end tables?

Agreed, beautiful space. I suggest a simple, classic console table between the 2 windows like the one below. It picks up the gold in the fireplace trim. A piece of artwork with a soft feel would complete the look. I agree a mirror above the fireplace would be lovely. May I also suggest to move the 2 sofas closer together, pull the chaise in a bit more to be a part of the conversation area and place the bench in front of the fireplace. A rug to anchor the space would be great as well.

Yes we are definitely going to put in a rug. My husband does not want to cover the beautiful windows if I were to put the two couches facing each other. I do really love they look though. Especially since there will be no TV in this room. The couches are basically the same size. However one of them has a chaise attached so I'm not sure how that will look. Also I don't know where we would pit the tufted chaise if we were to put the couches facing each other...

Beautiful room. It may be the photo, but the furniture seems very far apart for any conversation. I think a rug would really pull the pieces together, even if it's a very large rug. I would get that before anything else.
Side tables are in the process. Also I think the picture makes the space look larger. The couches are not that spaced out in reality.

Does anyone know a free program I could use to add furniture to a picture of my room? So I could visualize better.

Try the skin rug with the lounge. Include a floor lamp and a tiny table.

Love the wood art..would be gorgeous in your space! Love how simple and understated it is.

What a stunning room! I would put something there that is tall and highlights the height of the wall - if you do art, I think a tall rectangular shape would be nice (not something square). Also, a nice simple piece with height would work well too. Just a beautiful room!!

I think a framed piece of art would be nice on the side wall. Here is a suggestion.

I take pictures of ocean waves (have about 10,000) then I digitally edit them in photoshop. So the splashes are real ocean waves from the Pacific coast.

That's neat! How did you insert the art piece into the picture of my room at such a good angle that it looks like it's actually there?

Photoshop. Transform and skew :).. I work digitally for all my art and I think it should look realistic..two extra commands and it looks good. Just have to follow the lines of the ceiling and the floor.

Some suggestions below. I particularly like the white background for that space, and the other ones give more dimension if you'd like more contrast.

    Enjoy decorating!

A beautiful room - congratulations. The thing that strikes me about the room is its understated, refined elegance. Perhaps this piece of art would continue the subtle theme & appeal to your minimalist taste.

Hmm I'm still deciding between a shelf like the one I posted or an art piece. So far one person said no to shelf. I'll post the picture of the shelf again. As for the art piece, I want something neutral but maybe with a little black in it for some contrast.
I'd say no to the shelf too. Do you have items that you'd want to display on it?

No to shelf if any kind..it will take away the calm and uncluttered.....less is more feeling you have accomplished in your space..I say keep it simple...mirror or art.

Thank you for your suggestions! I also was afraid to purchase a shelf there thinking it might look too cluttered for my taste.
That shelving unit cheapens the elegant space. It's not a bad piece, but the space between the windows could be so much more.

how do i post something like this and actually get replies. We just bought a house and ahve absolutely nothing on the walls and I dont really have an eye for decorating. We like rustic looking things but because of the hefty price tag of such furniture we ended up with stuff we really dont like which is comtemporary looking. I want to add a warmth rusticy look, how do i do that I need help! Sorry this has nothing to do with this post

The room is monochromatic. You need some color. I would add a nice medium-stained wood console table with narrow legs and a big piece of colorful art above it.

Amanda....Open up a dilemma and please add some pictures.

This Is our new construction great room living area.. i would love some ideas for this wall, but really don't want a large built in. The primary seating area will be toward the fireplace wall which is not in sight here. We have great art and a Chinese chest which is probably 5 ft. This wall is 17 ft between windows..HELP please

Huh? A picture of a wall with a man standing in front of it and we are supposed to give ideas.
