you have no upper cabinets?

Work with a full service KD to fix the numerous layout issues first. They will provide you with a lighting plan. But don't move forward with that whatever it is. It's not a workable kitchen that is for sure.

The key is to have the pendants over the island and downlights strategically placed over each work area. There is nothing worse than an under-lit kitchen when you are trying to prepare a meal.

Each comment has good points, never place a recessed light over head so as to light your head...u want to see your work. After your drawing is done, consider undercabinet light.

I am having trouble with this kitchen layout. You are going to walk your legs off. I like the idea of having a good lighting plan, but comments above are very worth considering. Hard to comment because drawing lettering is so small but I can get the basics, just not a good layout.

I Don't Get all the comments about the layout. You seem to have a good work triangle there between the island and back wall and the storage and things off to the Side are less used areas like wine storage that make sense to be away from the work zone. Anyways, you asked about lighting, not your layout correct?

People don't ask about the skin cancers their arms when they want cough medicine but doctors still bring them to the attention of the patients. No way should there be any worry about lighting when there is that elephant in the room.

Downbytheriver, I do have upper cabinets but was out of the country visiting my aunt and this was the best plan I could upload on Houzz. With that said, I am planning on putting 2 large pendants over the island along with a can over the sink as well as upper and lower cabinet lighting. So I'm glad you showed that pendant/sink can layout on the top of "my elephant” like I was planning.

I was just panicking on the can lights around my counters. I also actually had those similarly planned but after reading up on lighting thought the ones on both sides of the range and in front of trash (next to wine) should be on the edge of the counter, not centered between the counter and island…then didn’t know what to do with the others and how important was symmetry.

On a side not, the elephant is so big that you can’t even see the kitchen table which is off to the far right and did’t make the plan. We’ll be using that as more of a dining area rather than a kitchen table. We’ll be eating at the island 95% of the time.

Flo, it’s now a giant kitchen that will be open to the living room. The primary fridge, sink and range will be very close to each other. I chose to put our 2nd fridge in the kitchen instead of the laundry room because I had the space. The pantry gets to be oversized because of its location. It’s really not that far away.
