Hi! Well, it may be a little late to plant them. You may want to wait until early spring, especially because your area gets cold. Then you will probably get sprouts again in early spring the next year. You are right about the trees, their leaves provide great mulch. Make sure your soil is fast draining or these guys won't do well. They should be fine to grow in your area, they are hardy in zones 6-8. Also just make sure they'll get lots of dappled shade and know the complicated lighting requirements. Best wishes!

Actually, the supplier of these dormant bulbs says it's good to plant them now, since they're "asleep" anyway. we'll see! I have identified several places around my property that should emulate the shady damp woods they like, so I'm hoping they'll do well!

Just a couple more photos - these guys have gone crazy in the past few days. I'm planning to harvest a few leaves this year and let the roots do their thing. I'll probably order more from the same supplier in the fall since they seem to be happy in the area I can provide.
