Subway tile to ceiling?

We're installing white subway tile as backsplash under the upper cabinets. Thoughts on installing it everywhere else - ie the space around the windows? Otherwise we'd paint, but I'm worried about it looking odd for it to be cut off. The cabinets go all the way to ceiling (not the upper trim hasn't been installed yet, but it will be soon!) See pictures below. Thanks!

Personally, I'd keep it inline with the upper cabinets and run it to the window (in first photo). However, I also wouldn't backsplash the tiny "column" in the second photo. I think floor to ceiling subway would be out of place since there wouldn't be ANY tile at all under the window. I also think a little sliver backsplash would look odd.

your counter comes up pretty high to the window, so I would definitely go all the way up. would look really nice! here's an example

Thank you! Correct, the counter comes exactly up to the window ledge (with new blinds on their way). Both good thoughts to consider.

I also think the subway tile would look great all the way up to the ceiling. Love your big windows!

yes, do all the way to ceiling on the main wall. I'm thinking maybe the adjoining wall as well, but you could step back and look when first wall is done and see how it looks. If it looks 'off' then go ahead and do the other wall. If you can live with it, then just paint. BTW, the woven blinds in the example pic above would look on your window.

I think it would look good either way, but if you don't do the whole wall, don't cut the tile off at the bottom of the cabinets. Go a little higher. It looks more complete that way.

I would go all the way up, and include the right edge. The tile would also be a frame for your windows ... doors... window-doors. :)

If you're replacing the blinds with new blinds, make sure you get routeless blinds, so that you can physically remove the lower slats to clean them. My counter is flush with the window-doors as well. Those lower slats are impossible to keep from being splattered.
