Akebia from seed?

Has anyone ever germinated Akebia seeds? I have tried many (perhaps 20 + ) times with seed purchased from round the globe & never had a single one germinate.

I have successfully germinated, Stauntonia, Holboellia & Lardizabala, & a few Decaisnea with no problems. I have tried soaking, fungiciding, stratifying & waiting in every conceivable combination but have simply had no results. I suspect that the seed just won't germinate once dried though this is not what most references say.

Any comment by those with 1st hand experience would be much appreciated.

I have large Lardizabala vines at my back door up to the top of a 50' Cork Oak & they come up all over the garden unaided. I have however until recently only had one clone of Akebia quinata so have never had fresh seed. I bought some A.trifoliata x A. longiracemosa seedlings & hope to get x'able flowers within a year or two, but I really want to grow A. trifoliata & just cant get any up!
