What is on the side of the room that all these pictures are taken from? Is it a full wall, staircase, half wall? Again ... a picture from the china cabinet towards the window with this fourth wall included would be helpful.

Nicole, pretty floor -- what kind of wood is it? That glass chess set seems to go on sale every year around the winter holidays. It looks pretty as a decoration (also served as a prop in an X-men movie), but curious if anyone in your home actually plays chess with it regularly. Because the clear pieces and the frosted pieces all look almost identical, very difficult to distinguish from one another. :)

The floor is the original...we just moved in last summer...hard wood? Yes, the chess is from the X-men movie...my husband worked on the film, plus my mother gave me that set AND my 5 year old daughter loves to play with my husband often...so it is more a useful set then decorative:) She is learning quite well even with the similar pieces.

I think the colours of all your pieces - furniture/rug and wall all flow really well together. But if you're wanting to spruce it up abit, try a colourful rug or one with a pattern, pillows can also add character. I think the color of your wall is nice, and it's easy to design against as it's neutral and most other colors compliment it.

I prefer the layout of the room shown in pic #1. I would place the printed ottoman opposite the coffee table in this pic.
Choose some colors in the printed ottoman for pillows. I think the art on the wall above buffet could be larger and moved down about 2 feet. The artwork could have more color also.

In pic #1 move the white ottomans close to sofa in front of buffet area (not sure if this would work). Move floor lamp in place of the table and lamp. Move single end table and table lamp to the other side of sofa. Place chess set on glass coffee table. I like the wall color. A rug would be nice.
