I need Living Room Help

last modified: 9 years ago

I have recently made some changes to my living room. These items are staying..sofa, rug, chairs, lamp and art, which will be hung correctly.

But I am trying to lighten things up. I will appreciate opinions on the following. Thanks in advance :)
Do I PAINT my media stand or LEAVE as is, or PURCHASE new? I want a pretty and cohesive feel to the room.
I have chosen some paint samples if I paint it.
Pics to follow.
#1 is chalk paint. Rest are SW latex satin.
The stand is 57 " long and 30 " high and 16" deep
TV is 49" x 30" high
Living Space is 12 feet long and 13 wide
Dining space is adjacent with about 2 foot clearance between. Dining space is 7x7
Sofa wall is 12 ft
Tv wall is 21 ft from living room to kitchen

I would say no blue paint for the mat....and you want the artwork to stand out so no medium beige....I think 1 could work. Or seven which is just white I think? Is there a sheen to the mat as is?
There is no sheen to the mat, I could use a flat white I have left over from the ceilings being painted?

Flooring completed in guest room. Suggestions welcome :)

    Few more

Hey Valerie.....I love the quilt in your guest room. Mind sharing where you found it? I am looking for something colorful like that.

Hi Pat, I got it in Walmart in the actual store in Myrtle Beach. They still have them. :)
    It washes well :)
Hi Pat I will show you the other side it is reversible.
Very nice......summery & cheerful. Thanks Valerie.

Your bedroom looks wonderful! I need to tell u about the blinds; turn binds tilted upward. So people don't see in. I think under the window arch hang whimsical sheer flowy curtains.

I like your room's green and warm colors, so nice and pretty. The flooring seems washed/lightened... good too especially with bed frame.

Love that quilt and I have been looking for something like that for a client for a wall in a young ones room. Great idea!! Thanks!

Thanks all, I agree about the curtains. I am looking for some closet organizers so I haven't begun the curtain hunt yet :)
Then yes keep the mat no sheen. So either the paint color number one if it is flat or the white ceiling paint:)
Omg this might be my favorite room val! Love it! Are there three rugs??
And the only thing other than the curtains I could suggest is adding two or three vintage books under the chunky lamp that is on the dresser.
Just said the book thing so the lamp and candlesticks are on diff "levels" lol. But that's just a minor detail! So beautiful!!
Oh I see the coral painting in here!! Can it be lowered to around eye level??
Or is that eye level? Can't tell from pic. Is center of it about 58" from floor?
Thanks Jordan, I will put some books under the lamp! I am not sure which painting you are referring too. I think you may mean the one by the door. It is not the coral painting, it's just a small pic I had in the same color as the coral pic. I think it is eye level but I will measure to be sure. It was the last thing we did so maybe I forgot to check! Thanks again :) it is my fav room too. :)

Storage bench in the bedroom. I need to get a longer throw for the bed.

Love it. You have it. Lovely.

Yes you are so smart val to figure out which I was talking about lol. That is what I meant! And wow love the new bench:) also loved the old pillows, but love the new ones too!!

Love the color of the turquoise throw, nice contrast to the whites & aqua. But, and yes, a bit longer over the sides would do it!

Thanks Flo and Jordan. Jordan you are right the pic is too high! I will wait to move it down as the hole will show and hubby just finished repairing holes. I will wait a few days until I let him know one more to fill!

I painted the mats in the frames flat white. Jordan I changed back to the other pillows and throw. :)

From a photo -- the rich teal items really 'showed' well!! And brought out the cool nature of the glass lamp bases... :)

Lol, ok I will bring back the teal throw! I just have to find a longer one. Thanks for all the help I think I almost love it :)

It already looks terrific. Just let it happen now!

Thanks Flo and everyone for the wonderful help! I truly appreciate it! I am happy with i could not have done it on my own. You are all so talented and I will be forever grateful for all your wonderful suggestions and encouragement. I should place a little plaque at the door with a credits go to...and put all your names in it! :)
I will post more pics once I get a new throw and some curtains. It's funny I was looking at some cheap sheers and hubby was like no! They look cheap we need nicer ones! He has become a decorator! Lol
Thanks again all, tomorrow I am off to crafts. :)

Valerie, it has been a wonderful ride! I have really enjoyed all of this. Thank you for letting me be a part.

The old teal living room rug, do u still have? Would look amazing at foot of bed about 1/3 to 2/3 way tucked under bed.

Yes we do S Mistry! We tried it when we first laid the floor and we didn't like how much it covered up the new floor, I will try it again though as I didn't have the teal throw on the bed at the time. :)

I think hubby was reluctant to cover up the floor he worked so hard on to lay. He may be more receptive to it now that he has had a few weeks of no work to do!

We both like the teal rug so I will try it again. It is rolled up under the bed lol
  • 9 years ago
Here is the teal rug we already had. It is only a 5 x 7 . My bed is a double. If I pull it 1/3 or 1/2 under there is less than foot of rug on each side of the bed and not much left sticking out the bottom and the corners end up in an awkward spot.
This pic is the rug just slightly under the bottom of the bed.
Do you think it looks ok? :)
    Couple more pics
I will pull it under more if you think I should? I wish is was bigger :(

    It's got my star!

I love the teal, but not the white shag rug. Those should be a bit smaller if you want them. Or a larger teal one. I like the idea of stepping out onto a fluffy rug. Maybe the teal blanket at foot of bed is enough teal? Then just use the white rugs but center them more on the sides of the bed.?

Thanks all. I will think about it today. :)

Yes pull it under the bed so more floor shows. Size looks good. Try 1/2 way under bed

Here is the link to some before and after pics.
I also put more After pics in my idea book.
Thanks again all for all your magnificent help and suggestions!

Valerie - Hi! Flo Mangan here. I have another poster looking for the same kind of drapery you found for your enclosed porch, which turned out so lovely btw. I hope you are still around and can tell me where you finally found those. thanks in advance and hope you are having fun!! Great pics!

Hi Flo, sorry I didn't respond sooner. I just got back from a cruise today and I did not have internet access while I was away.
I purchased the curtains in Kohl's. I will look tomorrow on the tags to see if there is a name of the style of them as I don't remember it.
Hopefully there will be something that may help. See you then :)

Oh, hope you had a grand time! I forgot you were "cruzzin"! Thanks, appreciate your help!

Hi Flo my curtains were from Kohls. They say Sanoma Lifestyle on them.

I think these are them. They are a linen blend.
    Hope this helps :)
