Home Depot and Menards have the Lux 417, maybe others online but not as cheap as AJMadison. Lowe's doesn't offer them. I'm trying to justify if there is a benefit to taking advantage of a clearance sale to get what appears to be a pretty nice machine over what I already chose as my favorite, mostly to get 2 additional inches of aisle space.

We have service, in fact, I know the owner. I think I'll give him a call on Monday and get his opinion.

The Lux 417 doesn't have the on board heater...therefore no steam nor sanitize cycle.

FWIW, I have owned the LG 3570 washer and dryer for seven months. I rather like the pair. I would be tempted to go for the 4270 instead because of a few more dedicated cycles, like a proper woolens cycle. (I make do quite nicely with the Delicates cycle (cold temperature, low spin) when washing wool clothing.) Likewise, the matching dryer has a few more dedicated cycles.

One disappointment I have had with the 3570 dryer is the lack of a true dedicated manually-timed cycle that defaults to a medium or low temperature. (There is a Speed Dry cycle that defaults to the Very High temperature.) Also, I would prefer sensor cycles that operate at a Low temperature that will actually get cottons dry. The Cotton/Normal drying cycle temperature has a minimum temperature of Medium. The Perm Press does operator at a Low temperature, but the cycle is too short if one dries cottons (even if it has fairly-thin material). I like using the Low rather than Medium temperature for T-shirts and other clothing that have printing on them. My workaround is to use the Speed Dry cycle set for 60 to 70 minutes at a Low temperature. Or just put up with the Cotton/Normal cycle's Medium temperature.

We've had the LG4270 and matching dryer 3370 for about 15 months now, and have been very happy with both. I especially like the ability to get a truly HOT wash, as the 4270 has an onboard heater. The capacity on both the washer and dryer is HUGE--not that we need it as there is just the two of us. There are many, many different cycles and bells and whistles, most of which we do not use!

The only thing I have an issue with is the washer spins the clothes VERY dry, even on the low spin cycle. Of course, this results in a load of wrinkled items that need to be "shaken out" before putting into the dryer. I'm thinking this is the case with most new HE washers, though.

I'd buy this set again!

Thank you asko_buyer and tvq1 for your detailed info. It helps me and all others try to decipher this market. The 4270 would have been a great match as all the cycles were appealing, especially wool, and good design options but ultimately I decided on the Lux 517. Hopefully it won't be a lemon and the shipping goes quickly. The final decision was determined by the dryer and venting option as well as required clearance. The 517 has a cutout that "hopefully", if the specs are correct, will allow me to vent with zero clearance. The LG would have required a side vent and additional parts and labor for my situation.

I thank those of you that responded and everyone so devoted to laundry! It's such an important part of our daily lives and it sure is nice to help it be more efficient.
